{"author_name":"GAFBlizzard","cat":"LD #32","comments":[],"epoch":1428891120,"likes":0,"metadata":{"p_key":"21135","p_author":"GAFBlizzard","p_authorkey":"12278","p_urlkey":"56481","p_title":"Lessons learned from LD31","p_cat":"LD #32","p_event":"LD32","p_time":"1428891120","p_likes":"0","p_comments":"0","p_status":"UPD5","us_key":"12278","us_name":"GAFBlizzard","us_username":"gafblizzard","event_start":"1429228800","event_key":"27","event_name":"LD32"},"text":"<h2>I made some notes, mostly from the last Ludum Dare, LD31.<\/h2>\n <ol>\n <li>With HTML and swfobject.js, there seems to be no way to get initial mouse and<br \/>\n keyboard focus without using wmode = &#8220;opaque&#8221; or possibly &#8220;window&#8221;, both of<br \/>\n which apparently have performance problems.\u00a0 If you use wmode = &#8220;direct&#8221; for<br \/>\n embedding Flash, people will have to click the flash video first for Flixel,<br \/>\n and that click will apparently get ignored.\u00a0 Modifying Flixel might be one way<br \/>\n to fix it.\u00a0 I just worked around it by making the game initially pause so there<br \/>\n is a big arrow that makes it sort of obvious people need to click.<\/li>\n <li>Sometimes FlashDevelop seems to stop detecting compile errors, but when you<br \/>\n run the standalone Flash player, it will freeze without doing anything.\u00a0 In<br \/>\n this situation, if you close the Flash player and restart FlashDevelop, the<br \/>\n next time you compile the error(s) should be properly detected.<\/li>\n <li>The standalone Flash player seems to have a bit of lag playing sound effects.<br \/>\n However, playing the game in FireFox seems to make it better, so don&#8217;t panic!<\/li>\n <li>The &#8220;0.2&#8221; master volume in BFXR seems to work with 22 volume on my computer.<br \/>\n However, BFXR annoyingly seems to reset the master volume with each new sound,<br \/>\n so be very careful if you are wearing headphones.<\/li>\n <li>If I do something silly with a title\/menu page like making it a minigame, some<br \/>\n people may like it, but other people may be annoyed by it.\u00a0 My conclusion is<br \/>\n that I should include a skip button or keypress in that case so the people who<br \/>\n get annoyed can jump straight to gameplay.<\/li>\n <\/ol>\n <p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n <p>Also, here is my previous lessons learned post for reference:\u00a0 <a title=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/2014\/12\/05\/lessons-learned-from-last-time\/\" href=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/2014\/12\/05\/lessons-learned-from-last-time\/\">http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/2014\/12\/05\/lessons-learned-from-last-time\/<\/a><\/p>","time":"April 12th, 2015 9:12 pm","title":"Lessons learned from LD31"}
