When I actually get to work I&#8217;m very productive, but I spend the majority of my time thinking about alternative solutions. I have\u00a0to try\u00a0break that cycle.<\/p>\n <p><b>Let&#8217;s improvise<\/b><\/p>\n <p>I participated in a graphics design workshop last month. We were taught the basics of shaders, and then given an hour to play around on <a title=\"http:\/\/shadertoy.com\" href=\"http:\/\/shadertoy.com\">http:\/\/shadertoy.com<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0encouraged to improvise. Instead of visualizing a desired outcome and trying to reverse-engineer the appropriate code, we used random inputs and scaled\u00a0parameters until they produced\u00a0something\u00a0<strong>interesting<\/strong>. Only after finding that interesting thing were we encouraged to fine-tune our work.<\/p>\n <p>The results were fantastic. I stopped second-guessing myself. I stopped trying to predict the outcome before committing to it. I embraced the unknown. Nothing felt risky because no outcome, good or bad,\u00a0was going to be taken personally. <strong>I was free to\u00a0play<\/strong>.<\/p>","time":"March 31st, 2015 3:31 pm","title":"Let\u2019s play \u2013 I\u2019m in"}
