On game jams, I always find I stumble on a few things:

I have trouble finding a way to use the theme properly, in a “clever” way.

I spend a most of time implementing a weird mechanic, ignoring the game design itself (whether it makes sense as a whole game, trying to create levels on paper beforehand, etc.)

I dedicate almost no time on making levels. Also I suck at it, I never manage to think of more than 5 or 10.

And then I look at other entries and some of them are really smart and well executed and I feel like I should be able to do better.

So this time I decided I would not try to think to do anything too clever, just make a game and finish it, with polished aesthetics and sounds and music.

The end result is that I’m not too proud of it because it’s nothing special. But, it’s more practice for me, I’ve learned how to use the new Unity GUI and I’ve used A* pathfinding for the first time.

All in all, not bad I guess.

But after playing some of the other awesome games, I just want to make a game that you can play forever, instead of once and it’s done. That would be a nice change from these 10 level puzzle games

December 10th, 2014 6:48 am
Quick “duals” post-mortem"}
