I actually looked at my old posts and laughed so hard, they are so silly

You can play my game Here

I was lucky to be able to participate in this, I really only found out it was on because I was randomly going through my bookmarks. And saw ludum dare was starting the next day! I came up with an idea pretty fast, which is that you can only see red, green, or blue things on the screen at once, hence, the ‘dodgy screen’. I started working in Unity, which was a breath of fresh air for me, coming from a year with C++ and SFML, trying to manage memory :). I had never worked with C# before, although I very quickly caught on coming from C++, I found alot was similar, and easier. Even the component design of Unity felt great. For sound, I used SFXR, which I made all the sound effects. I didn’t make music, I was thinking I might with sunvox, but I just didn’t have time. For the graphics, I used paint.net for the pixel art, which I liked, and a tad of photoshop here and there.

What went well:

C# was easy, scripting was super simple.

People liked my pixel art, even though it was probably the most rushed thing I did.

SFXR’s few sound effects ended up in my game.

My idea was unique, and different, even if it wasn’t entirely based on the theme.

I made a timelapse!

I ‘finished’ my game! (Even if it had no music and had a short level)

Had alot of fun.

What didn’t go so well:

Nearly everyone thought the controls were hard, which even I agree. Some people said this in IRC when I showed them, but I didn’t pay much attention to it…

No music! I think with better planning I could have had time to put some in.

Alot of people didn’t understand the concept, or didn’t see how it related to the theme.

My time wasn’t managed as well as it could have been, it was mainly just ‘Do what needs to be done first and do it ASAP!’

My game was really difficult! I think this had to do with the controls and level.

Thanks everyone for an awesome Ludum Dare! It’s been a lot of fun and I’ve learnt heaps.

-Mixer

December 9th, 2014 6:41 pm
Dodgy Screen PostMortem"}
