I’m doing this differently next time.
Okay so there’s no hope of me finishing my game, even in time for the Jam, so I’ll just explain what I did wrong.
I planned around the theme, but I put the theme in the story, not the mechanics. That’s fine, if you’re a walking IDE. I barely finished the basic physics of the game a few minutes ago and there’s no gameplay at all, let alone storyline! There’s a very, very slim chance that I’ll still make it by coding from early tomorrow morning. I doubt that’ll happen though.
I should have made all the mechanics and gameplay today, instead of focusing on graphics, and then I should have done graphics tomorrow. Oh well. Next time.
So a list of things to avoid unless you’re certain:
- Your game looking good on day 1. (if this happens by coincidence, that’s great!)
- Your game’s mechanics being unplanned when you start graphics.
- High-resolution pixel art (I killed myself with this one.)
These may or may not be painfully obvious but this is my first dare and I just learned them the hard way.
