{"author_name":"Andy Gainey","cat":"LD #30","comments":[],"epoch":1408742220,"likes":1,"metadata":{"p_key":"28621","p_author":"Andy Gainey","p_authorkey":"30311","p_urlkey":"64076","p_title":"My 3rd Jam and Vague Plans","p_cat":"LD #30","p_event":"LD30","p_time":"1408742220","p_likes":"1","p_comments":"0","p_status":"UPD5","us_key":"30311","us_name":"Andy Gainey","us_username":"againey","event_start":"1408665600","event_key":"24","event_name":"LD30"},"text":"<p>(crossposted from <a title=\"Experilous:  Ludum Dare 30\" href=\"http:\/\/experilous.com\/1\/blog\/post\/ludum-dare-30\" target=\"_blank\">experilous.com<\/a>)<\/p>\n <p>This trimester I&#8217;ll be doing the 3-day jam rather than the 2-day competition, since I might have some outside assistance, and my schedule doesn&#8217;t really line up well with a Sunday evening deadline.<\/p>\n <p>As before I&#8217;ll probably use the HTML5\/JavaScript\/CreateJS\/jQuery combo, and take advantage of any of the code from my prior two jams or the other prototypes available here on my site.<\/p>\n <p>Although I&#8217;ll note that I&#8217;m tempted by the recent release of the Unity 4.6 public beta, and the new GUI contained within.\u00a0 Trouble is, I&#8217;m not very proficient with Unity, so it would definitely slow me down during a jam.\u00a0 For some reason, every time I use Unity, I very quickly find myself confused by urges to fight the engine, rather than work with it.\u00a0 So if I go the Unity route, the entire purpose of the jam will simply be to have <em>any<\/em> game completed to a playable state, whether innovative, fun, or otherwise.<\/p>\n <p>If I focus on game mechanics, however, innovation is generally my objective.\u00a0 This time around, I&#8217;m toying with a game style inspired by collectible card games like <em>Magic:\u00a0 The Gathering<\/em> or <em>Hearthstone<\/em>.\u00a0 Note the word &#8220;inspired&#8221;, as I don&#8217;t intend to literally create a card game.\u00a0 But there are a lot of fascinating elements that I think can carry over into other game styles, and I&#8217;ve recently been working on doing that with some of my larger projects.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t have anything to show for those larger projects yet, though, so this might push me to test the waters with some concrete functionality.\u00a0 Always a valuable benefit of doing a game jam.<\/p>\n \n <p>Tags: <a href=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/tag\/html5\/\" rel=\"tag\">html5<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/tag\/jam\/\" rel=\"tag\">jam<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/tag\/javascript\/\" rel=\"tag\">javascript<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/tag\/plans\/\" rel=\"tag\">plans<\/a><\/p>","time":"August 22nd, 2014 4:17 pm","title":"My 3rd Jam and Vague Plans"}
