My name is Marc and I’m a programmer, but sadly not in the game industry. However, I do some game development in my spare time. Due to a constant lack of said spare time, I never actually finished any of my projects. I hope LD will teach me how to make the most of limited time. But mostly I hope it will be loads of fun. I don’t see LD as a competition anyway. To me it’s something that brings people together from all over the world.

I’m still not sure, if I’ll join the solo competition or the jam with a friend. We’ll probably use HTML5 + JavaScript for coding and Gimp/IrfanView for graphics. Sound FX and especially Music could become a problem.

I did some graphics for warmup weekend. It’s a tile set for a jump&run game in retro pixel art style:

The example level is just a mockup, because I didn’t have the time to actually code something. The tile’s color palette uses colors of a C64 btw. 16 colors should be enough for everyone, although I had to add a 17th color as transparent color. I never noticed before how carefully those colors were chosen by the designers of the C64 to complement each other. And I still don’t use all of them yet.

So, be creative everyone!

Marc

August 19th, 2014 10:16 am
Getting ready for LD #30"}
