Understanding LD – Made with Unity3d and Voxwell

“Understanding LD” – by @DarkMeatGames

So this was my first ever Ludum Dare, and I’m really pleased I managed to submit something!

I spent the first half of day 1 on two separate ideas I ended up scrapping. I wished I had spent more time planning and brainstorming, instead of just jumping headlong into the first idea I had that was ‘on theme’. Feeling frustrated, I decided to just try to make SOMETHING to submit, and the ‘on theme’ part of it was that I was gaining a deeper understanding of both Ludum Dare and Level Design (Hence “LD” in the title)

On top of that, I decided to give out free copies of Voxwell. Ultimately, it was *extremely* rewarding to have people express an interest in using something I made. Even better was seeing the projects that people made using it. Probably one of the best feelings I’ve ever experienced. Supporting and communicating with users ate into development time, but it was so, so worth it.

Overall, I’m quite proud of what I was able to do in such a small amount of time. And I can’t wait for #LD30, where I will continue my love-affair with voxels.
