{"author_name":"zzorn","cat":"LD #29","comments":[],"epoch":1398734580,"likes":2,"metadata":{"p_key":"30296","p_author":"zzorn","p_authorkey":"2534","p_urlkey":"65768","p_title":"Crushing Depth","p_cat":"LD #29","p_event":"LD29","p_time":"1398734580","p_likes":"2","p_comments":"0","p_status":"UPD5","us_key":"2534","us_name":"zzorn","us_username":"zzorn","event_start":"1398384000","event_key":"22","event_name":"LD29"},"text":"<p>I wrapped up my submarine simulator into <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-29\/?action=preview&amp;uid=2534\">a slightly playable version<\/a> and submitted it.<\/p>\n <p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/CrushingDepth_school_of_subs.png\"><img class=\"aligncenter wp-image-356336 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/CrushingDepth_school_of_subs-550x483.png\" alt=\"CrushingDepth_school_of_subs\" width=\"550\" height=\"483\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/CrushingDepth_school_of_subs-300x263.png 300w, http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/CrushingDepth_school_of_subs-550x483.png 550w, http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/CrushingDepth_school_of_subs.png 655w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n <p>As a game, it&#8217;s pretty unfinished &#8211; there&#8217;s no menu screen, no sounds, and no goals beyond shooting the surrounding submarines.<\/p>\n <p>But as a learning experience it was great &#8211; I got the opportunity to implement a pretty accurate underwater physics engine, a 3D object-based UI, a system simulation for vehicles, build a custom underwater shader, and really learn the ease of use of game entity systems first hand.<\/p>\n <p>After all that, there was not much time to craft a game as well.<\/p>\n <p>On the other hand, I can now take the lessons learned and parts of the code from this project, and expand on my arsenal of useful game utility libraries and basecode.\u00a0 LudumDare was a great incentive to prototype these, and a motivation to carry on developing them.\u00a0 Thanks to everyone in the community! <img src=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-includes\/images\/smilies\/simple-smile.png\" alt=\":)\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em; max-height: 1em;\" \/><\/p>","time":"April 28th, 2014 8:23 pm","title":"Crushing Depth"}
