I have successfully created a game before the deadline. It’s titled ‘Beneath the Surface’. I was trying to create a short narrative-driven game about a person being buried alive.

the idea
The game was very loosely based on Edgar Allan Poe’s ‘The Premature Burial’ in where the character wakes up in a boat’s berth thinking he was buried alive. I intended the game to deliberately show the main character to have met this fate. However, a choice near the end of the game decides whether or not the character was actually buried alive.

I’ve used MSPaint, Flash, and FLStudio in creating this game.

how it went
The game was finished early, and I was happy about the result. The game was pretty short though, only lasting at least two to three minutes. The bad reception effect, the music, and the story mixed perfectly to provide a tense, riveting atmosphere.

What really interested me is the shock value of the game. Admittedly, it isn’t one of the happier games I’ve made. But it’s interesting to note how a few lines of dialogue, a scene, and a few cuts to static could leave an impression to the player.

This game development experience has been one of the best so far.

play, rate
http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-29/?action=preview&uid=34553

April 28th, 2014 5:30 am
"}
