Overthrow Day One
So I am a few hours in and unfortunately am forced to call it a night. Design wise, I’m mostly done. I work with kids and spent a bunch of time today doodling with them, getting some idea of the art down. Will get that converted to pixel art most likely tomorrow. As far as coding goes I can now load a tilemap(with placeholder graphics) which places down clickable units (also with placeholder graphics). The clicks do nothing at this point, but the game recognizes that they are clicked, and literally no UI elements have been implemented but with only working ~3 hours on it I’m pretty happy with where I am.
I work tomorrow from 8-noon and will be taking major breaks to do real world things so we will see how much actually gets done tomorrow.
My goals for tomorrow:
- Have basic units respond to being clicked (highlight) and move semi-appropriately on start
- Have basic (even placeholder) UI elements in place. Enough to play the game at a manageable level.
- Have more than one unit and their respective abilities working (not necessarily balanced)
- Get some basic art in place even if it does not have smooth animations yet
- Post a screenshot for #screenshotsaturday
Feeling really motivated and happy working on this. I’ll check back in tomorrow, hopefully getting all my goals accomplished!
