{"author_name":"supremefist","cat":"LD #28","comments":[{"author_name":"pirate-rob","time":"December 17, 2013 2:13 am","epoch":1387264380,"text":"Woo, I&#8217;m south african too, nice to know not the only one.","spam":"N"}],"epoch":1387262880,"likes":3,"metadata":{"p_key":"34364","p_author":"supremefist","p_authorkey":"6395","p_urlkey":"69911","p_title":"You only get one world \u2013 post mortem","p_cat":"LD #28","p_event":"LD28","p_time":"1387262880","p_likes":"3","p_comments":"1","p_status":"UPD5","us_key":"6395","us_name":"supremefist","us_username":"supremefist","event_start":"1386892800","event_key":"20","event_name":"LD28"},"text":"<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">Now that I&#8217;ve rested up again and my sanity has returned, I feel ready to write a postmortem for the game I made for LD28! \u00a0You can play my game here:<\/span><\/p>\n <p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-28\/?action=preview&amp;uid=6395\">You only get one&#8230; WORLD<\/a>!<\/p>\n <p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/scientist.png\"><img class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-322276\" alt=\"scientist\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/scientist.png\" width=\"64\" height=\"96\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n <p>I am a South African, so the competition started at 04h00 in the morning on Saturday, making it difficult for me to be there from the start! <img src=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-includes\/images\/smilies\/simple-smile.png\" alt=\":)\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em; max-height: 1em;\" \/> \u00a0It was my first Ludum Dare and it was loads of fun!\u00a0Thanks to everyone who&#8217;s rated my game so far! \u00a0I will be sure to rate any commenters on my game!<\/p>\n <p><strong>What went right:<\/strong><\/p>\n <ul>\n <li>I have a lot of experience with most of the tools I used (openfl, aseprite, audiotool), which made for quick progress across the board.<\/li>\n <li>My brainstorming session early on the Saturday morning went really well and I found an idea that I was pretty excited about in about 2 hours. \u00a0After that I could hit the ground running!<\/li>\n <li>I drew up a rough schedule the night before the competition and I stuck by it more or less! \u00a0It helped me keep my eye on the big picture!<\/li>\n <li>I used the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pomodoro_Technique\">pomodoro<\/a>\u00a0technique and it helped me to stay focused a lot! \u00a0It also helps you keep track of the time and keep \u00a0your eye on the ball! \u00a0I can vouch for its efficacy!<\/li>\n <li>I didn&#8217;t know beforehand how good my pixelart would be under pressure, but creating the art for the game went pretty smoothly and I am really happy with the final result!<\/li>\n <li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.audiotool.com\/track\/one_earth\">Audiotool<\/a>\u00a0was used to compose the music pretty quickly and I can highly recommend it!<\/li>\n <\/ul>\n <p><strong>What went wrong:<\/strong><\/p>\n <ul>\n <li>I wasn&#8217;t able to get to bed early enough on the Friday evening and ended up sleeping until 07h00 instead of getting up at 04h00!<\/li>\n <li>I didn&#8217;t prepare for theme very well beforehand. \u00a0Next time, I will brainstorm the day before on each of the possible themes so that I have a few ideas once the theme is announced.<\/li>\n <li>The strategic view took me a lot longer than I planned! \u00a0Pixel art world maps are not easy!<\/li>\n <li>I didn&#8217;t have time do a lot of the stuff I was planning from the start, like a crowd of noisy observers to the debate, better balancing and a victory screen&#8230; \u00a0There was just too much to do!<\/li>\n <\/ul>\n <p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/122.png\"><img class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-322309\" alt=\"1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/122-300x179.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"179\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/122-300x179.png 300w, http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/122-550x328.png 550w, http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/122.png 802w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n <p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">That&#8217;s about it. \u00a0Overall it was a really positive experience, I think I had quite a bit of luck on my side! \u00a0I hope you will play\/rate my <\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.5em\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-28\/?action=preview&amp;uid=6395\">game<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">\u00a0and leave a comment so that I can return the favor!<\/span><\/p>","time":"December 17th, 2013 1:48 am","title":"You only get one world \u2013 post mortem"}
