I’m a relatively new Unity dev since October, working in a small team based in Auckland, New Zealand. I have a computer science background and about 2 years of development experience.

I’m hoping to have something submitted for the warmup “weekend” before the jam actually starts. Just a basic FPS with some interactions. The main thing I’m hoping to accomplish is a robust world interaction system: triggers, actions, conditions. Things like clicking a light switch to turn on some lights, walking into a trigger to close a door, etc. I’m hoping for this to be the base for whatever game I attempt to make.

I’m well versed in Photoshop but not with any 3D making tools, so I’ll likely be using incredibly basic primitive graphics, or possibly 2D graphics depending on the theme. Realistically I don’t think I’ll end up fancying up the graphics or even using any sound effects. I really just want to finish and submit a project that is playable and is able to, in some capacity, represent the chosen theme.

I anticipate the theme to be the most challenging part, as nobody is sure of what it might be.

I’ve always shied away from doing these jams, but I’m hoping to dedicate myself this weekend to getting this done. Even if I end up throwing in the theme at the last minute, I’d rather that than no work submitted at all!

Here’s a popular inspiring blog post by Spelunky creator on finishing game projects:
http://makegames.tumblr.com/post/1136623767/finishing-a-game

Let’s do it!

December 9th, 2013 11:28 pm
First jam, first post"}
