{"author_name":"davvblack","cat":"LD #27","comments":[],"epoch":1377557760,"likes":2,"metadata":{"p_key":"38413","p_author":"davvblack","p_authorkey":"15237","p_urlkey":"74031","p_title":"Ten Second Samurai","p_cat":"LD #27","p_event":"LD27","p_time":"1377557760","p_likes":"2","p_comments":"0","p_status":"UPD5","us_key":"15237","us_name":"davvblack","us_username":"davvblack","event_start":"1377216000","event_key":"18","event_name":"LD27"},"text":"<p>We created a hybrid puzzle\/fighting game for the theme. \u00a0The concept is that you play as a samurai from feudal japan. \u00a0You are notoriously powerful because you can predict enemy actions 10 seconds in advance, and react to them very easily.<\/p>\n <p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http%3A%2F%2Fmadleedesign.com%2Fprojects%2Ftensecondsamurai%2F&amp;sa=D&amp;sntz=1&amp;usg=AFQjCNFj08Enjt87PCar8_lBbATnEKX2JQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">http:\/\/madleedesign.com\/projects\/tensecondsamurai\/<\/a><\/p>\n <p>To create this game, we used only raw javascript, no frameworks of any sort (out of some sense of samurai-like honor\/nobility.)<\/p>\n <p>There were also many sprites created on sunday, but we couldn&#8217;t get them integrated\/registered in time and we sadly had to scrap them:<\/p>\n <p>http:\/\/madleedesign.com\/misc\/tenseconds\/samurai2.html<\/p>\n <p>General gameplay:<\/p>\n <p>Almost every key on the keyboard is a control. \u00a0Each of the four rows of keys (1-0, q-p, a-;, z-\/) is a type of move: High Attack, High Block, Low Attack, Low Block respectively. \u00a0The further right on the keyboard you press the key, the cheaper the move is to queue, and it goes to a corresponding part of the move queue. \u00a0The further left the key you press is, the more expensive it is, but the less time the enemy has to react to it (and the more time you had to react to the enemy).<\/p>\n <p>There are a few other nice little features: \u00a0Blocking stance stays so long as you don&#8217;t take damage. \u00a0To break someone&#8217;s block, you can stack multiple attacks into one big power attack. \u00a0This also staggers them, reducing their damage somewhat for a few seconds. \u00a0Another way to stagger the enemy is to start a new block (not the same stance you are already in) exactly when that type of attack arrives. \u00a0It takes some skill, but has tremendous strategic benefits.<\/p>\n <p>We have 10 unique opponents, each with their own AI\/fighting style, so hopefully you enjoy our little game <img src=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-includes\/images\/smilies\/simple-smile.png\" alt=\":)\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em; max-height: 1em;\" \/><\/p>","time":"August 26th, 2013 5:56 pm","title":"Ten Second Samurai"}
