Random thought for the day.","spam":"N"}],"epoch":1367025960,"likes":2,"metadata":{"p_key":"45845","p_author":"Kyle Bolton","p_authorkey":"21520","p_urlkey":"81505","p_title":"Stuff\u2019s Moving on the Screen","p_cat":"LD #26","p_event":"LD26","p_time":"1367025960","p_likes":"2","p_comments":"1","p_status":"UPD5","us_key":"21520","us_name":"Kyle Bolton","us_username":"kylebolton","event_start":"1366934400","event_key":"16","event_name":"LD26"},"text":"<p>Upon learning the theme, my first instinct was to dive into Google for inspiration. \u00a0One of the first things I saw was Piet Mondrian&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Composition No 10,\u00a0<\/em>and my mind immediately jumped to a game that utilized this aesthetic.<\/p>\n <p><img class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/en\/9\/9c\/Mondrian_Comp10.jpg\" width=\"270\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n <p>Some further digging led to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gdcvault.com\/play\/1012298\/Minimalist-Game-Design-Growing\">GDC post mortem for Osmos<\/a>, in which the designers defined what a minimalistic game consists of. \u00a0One part in particular stood out to me:<\/p>\n <p>&#8220;Expose only the meaningful actions provided by the system.&#8221;<\/p>\n <p>Essentially, I&#8217;ve decided to experiment with Unity&#8217;s physics engine, which in the past I&#8217;ve avoided using. \u00a0While a minimalistic puzzle game might be a &#8220;low hanging fruit&#8221; for some, I&#8217;m expecting it to be a good technical and design challenge for me. \u00a0I currently have a scene that the player can rotate by clicking and dragging, and a sphere that bounces around the scene. \u00a0Now that I know I can do something like this, it&#8217;s time to start brainstorming further on the design end.<\/p>\n <p>Best of luck to everyone!<\/p>","time":"April 26th, 2013 8:26 pm","title":"Stuff\u2019s Moving on the Screen"}
