{"author_name":"khakionion","cat":"LD #22","comments":[],"epoch":1324352400,"likes":0,"metadata":{"p_key":"60217","p_author":"khakionion","p_authorkey":"4720","p_urlkey":"95970","p_title":"Timelapse and Postmortem","p_cat":"LD #22","p_event":"LD22","p_time":"1324352400","p_likes":"0","p_comments":"0","p_status":"UPD5","us_key":"4720","us_name":"khakionion","us_username":"khakionion","event_start":"1323993600","event_key":"8","event_name":"LD22"},"text":"<p>It took a few tries in Motion to upload to YouTube properly, but without further ado, here&#8217;s my timelapse for the creation of The Travel Section, with a postmortem after the link:<\/p>\n <p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xhNemclQU7s\">http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xhNemclQU7s<\/a><\/p>\n <p>So, <em><strong>what went right:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n <ul>\n <li><strong>Sticking to UIKit was a great idea<\/strong>, as it let me visually design my interface and make sure it was going to come out right on the first try.<\/li>\n <li><strong>SpriteSomething on iPad<\/strong> was super-useful for making pixel art.<\/li>\n <\/ul>\n <p>And of course, <em><strong>what went wrong:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n <ul>\n <li><strong>I totally misused UIStoryboard<\/strong> in my first pass of the app. If I had done just a touch more reading before I started, I wouldn&#8217;t have lost five or so hours near the end of the compo.<\/li>\n <li><strong>CoreAnimation isn&#8217;t for games<\/strong>. I had four or five hours to make my minigames near the end, and if I had stuck to basic NSTimer and manual animation at the start, I probably could have done three or four of them in the time it took me to do just one on the second try.<\/li>\n <\/ul>\n <p>So, that was my Ludum Dare 22! It was a tough experience, taught me a lot, and was quite a bit of fun.
