{"author_name":"DDRKirby(ISQ)","cat":"LD #22","comments":[],"epoch":1324111920,"likes":1,"metadata":{"p_key":"61878","p_author":"DDRKirby(ISQ)","p_authorkey":"7285","p_urlkey":"97644","p_title":"So far behind\u2026but looking hopeful","p_cat":"LD #22","p_event":"LD22","p_time":"1324111920","p_likes":"1","p_comments":"0","p_status":"UPD5","us_key":"7285","us_name":"DDRKirby(ISQ)","us_username":"ddrkirbyisq","event_start":"1323993600","event_key":"8","event_name":"LD22"},"text":"<p>So, almost 9 hours have elapsed since the start of LD and I have&#8230;actually done absolutely zero coding and I don&#8217;t really have any ideas as to what I&#8217;m going to be making. \u00a0Am I screwed???<\/p>\n <p>Well, on the plus side, I managed to get my test app running on Windows, OSX, and linux&#8211;and I got it to work on windows and osx without additional dependencies! \u00a0(I think&#8230;well, windows i might have gotten lucky in terms of test subject. \u00a0but I&#8217;m confident that even if it doesn&#8217;t work I can get it to) \u00a0So it&#8217;s settled: I&#8217;ll be using C# with SDL.net. \u00a0I&#8217;ll probably still be developing in Visual Studio with the .NET framework, but then my releases will be using Mono.<\/p>\n <p>It was really coming down to the wire, and a tough call&#8230;if I hadn&#8217;t figured out how to get it working on OSX I probably would have started trying to learn pygame (which I should still do at some point). \u00a0But this is hopeful. \u00a0Ever since trying out XNA I&#8217;ve really liked dev&#8217;ing in C# with Visual Studio, it&#8217;s just&#8230;nice.<\/p>\n <p>As for ideas, well&#8230;going to a social dance event for 5 hours didn&#8217;t really help me think about &#8220;alone&#8221; too much, haha. \u00a0I still really have nothing&#8230;maybe some really scatterbrained ideas, but nothing concrete.<\/p>\n <p>But in any case, I&#8217;m really dead tired so I&#8217;m going to just get a really good night&#8217;s rest (I&#8217;m gonna have to sleep sooner or later anyways) and then wake up ready to both brainstorm and start setting up the project. \u00a0Who knows&#8211;maybe I&#8217;ll come up with a neat project idea while I&#8217;m sleeping xD<\/p>\n <p>Interestingly enough, Alone was the name of the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/ddrkirby\/visual-novels\/alone\" target=\"_blank\">experimental way-short visual novel<\/a> I made in a day. \u00a0I think as a theme, it kind of begs me to think of something artsy&#8211;as in, a game that tries to make some sort of psychological or emotional impact. \u00a0Something that sends across a message of some sort. \u00a0In contrast to say, evolution or something, which I&#8217;d just regard more of as something to make into an interesting game mechanic.<\/p>\n <p>I guess the ideal way would be to make something that is both a game mechanic and has emotional impact. \u00a0Hmm&#8230;what to do?<\/p>\n <p>I do have to say though, that I like Alone a lot better than most of the other top-placing themes. \u00a0Randomly-generated, meh&#8230;Evolution, kind of okay I guess but I can see that one a little too easily. \u00a0Parallel dimension too, that&#8217;s too game-mechanic-y. \u00a0Forgotten places might be kind of interesting.<\/p>\n <p>But anyways&#8230;.alone. \u00a0alonealonealonealonealonealonezzzzzzzzz<\/p>","time":"December 17th, 2011 3:52 am","title":"So far behind\u2026but looking hopeful"}
