{"author_name":"maackle","cat":"LD #21","comments":[{"author_name":"snowyowl","time":"August 20, 2011 4:08 am","epoch":1313831280,"text":"There will be a lot of duplicate names by the end of the competition.","spam":"N"}],"epoch":1313830980,"likes":0,"metadata":{"p_key":"64547","p_author":"maackle","p_authorkey":"3579","p_urlkey":"100341","p_title":"I\u2019d call it \u201cEscape Velocity\u201d if it weren\u2019t already taken","p_cat":"LD #21","p_event":"LD21","p_time":"1313830980","p_likes":"0","p_comments":"1","p_status":"UPD5","us_key":"3579","us_name":"maackle","us_username":"maackle","event_start":"1313712000","event_key":"7","event_name":"LD21"},"text":"<p>Hi, this is my first Ludum Dare, but I&#8217;ve been following the gamedev community for a long time, and always working on projects (never really finished one though). \u00a0This is my slightly late I&#8217;m In! post.<\/p>\n <p>I can&#8217;t tell if my idea is overly ambitious or not yet. \u00a0I think it&#8217;s do-able. \u00a0Here&#8217;s the gist. \u00a0You have to escape from your own planet. \u00a0It&#8217;s a small, but very dense planet with a strong gravitational field. \u00a0You can run around its entire circumference in 10 seconds. \u00a0Unfortunately your quaint little planet is about to be bombarded by meteors from all directions. \u00a0You have to dodge the deadly meteors as they impact your planet, but they&#8217;re also your ticket out. \u00a0By climbing the mounds of fallen meteorites, you can reach higher altitudes where the atmosphere and gravitational field quickly thin out. \u00a0The higher you go, the less hold gravity has on you and the higher you can jump. \u00a0If you can just get to the top of the atmosphere, you can reach escape velocity with a single leap, and you&#8217;re free!<\/p>\n <p>There is obviously a lot of physics involved here, so I might not even get around to art, but I&#8217;m OK with that. \u00a0My tools?<\/p>\n <ul>\n <li>Python<\/li>\n <li>Box2D<\/li>\n <li>SFML\/OpenGL<\/li>\n <\/ul>\n <p>This is my first project using SFML and I&#8217;ve only dabbled in Box2D so this is a huge learning experience! \u00a0I&#8217;m well under way though, I&#8217;ll post a screenshot when I have something interesting to look at.<\/p>","time":"August 20th, 2011 4:03 am","title":"I\u2019d call it \u201cEscape Velocity\u201d if it weren\u2019t already taken"}
