A Spectacular Failure : Part 1 – I’m In

Hello, allow me to introduce myself. I am Tofu. This will be my first time entering in LD, as well as my first time making a game intended to be played, not just as a programming exercise. Lots of first times here for me, and like many of my first attempts, such as making an omelette or having sex, I expect it to be extremely successful and not at all frustrating. Just kidding, it’s gonna be a shitshow. Hopefully it won’t cause my girlfriend to abandon her belief system though, like when I tried substituting bouillon cubes for ham in that western omelette.

“Tofu, you’re nuts!” You say, “You’re going to work yourself to the bone and have a nervous breakdown. You’ll end up in a mental hospital, being spoon fed grits by an overweight black lady with bad teeth.” Ah my friend, you need not worry about me. Nothing invigorates me more than stress. I live for the thrill of pulling together a project at the very last minute. Besides, I’m not expecting anything other than a spectacular failure. A failure so spectacular that they’ll be talking about it for decades to come. A failure so bad that it will make E.T. The Extraterrestrial look like Shadow of the Colossus. Oh, gross. I just threw up a little in my mouth. I’m sorry, that’s really bad, I promise it won’t be that bad.

I’m hoping for a failure so bad that I’ll learn a year’s worth of game development lessons. I will of course be documenting the entire process so that other greenhorns like me can learn from my suffering.

Here’s what I’ll be using:

Graphics: Photoshop CS5

Audio: Audacity, sfxr, orDrumbox, a Seagull S6 entourage

Code: Pygame, pgu, eclipse

Moral Support: 1.75L of New Amsterdam Gin
