End of day 2: A working albeit iffy game","p_cat":"LD #35","p_event":"LD35","p_time":"1460938620","p_likes":"0","p_comments":"0","p_status":"UPD5","us_key":"18287","us_name":"Arakade","us_username":"arakade","event_start":"1460678400","event_key":"33","event_name":"LD35"},"text":"<p>So, end of day 2! \u00a0We have a basically working game. \u00a0A few more hours tomorrow evening then fin!<\/p>\n <p>Today, much faffing about, lots more drawing, developing and some tuning.<\/p>\n <p>Rupert had a rather short day &#8212; Sunday is swimming day for his boys so he only had from 10am to 1pm and 9pm to midnight = 6 hours. \u00a0The first 2 hours were lost to the Spriter-Unity import oddities that ended up in XML files revealing missing key-frames. \u00a0(Still, at least Spriter has a user-readable file-format otherwise this might have been much harder to diagnose!)<\/p>\n <p>After the thin-man draft imported OK, he managed to redraw most of the fat character for proper animation &#8212; including using Krita&#8217;s vector graphics facility for some parts! \u00a0(can you tell which &#8212; when I decided to try it?) \u00a0This version benefited from all of yesterday and this morning&#8217;s learning about what works best for animated characters. \u00a0Whether it&#8217;s a lesson that&#8217;s stuck, we&#8217;ll only tell tomorrow when it&#8217;s brought across into Spriter!<br \/>\n <a href=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/2016\/04\/17\/run-gamer-run-end-of-day-2-a-working-albeit-iffy-game\/ld48-35-fatty\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-550502\"><img class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-550502\" src=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/LD48-35-Fatty.png\" alt=\"A nicer fat stereotype\" width=\"402\" height=\"632\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/LD48-35-Fatty-191x300.png 191w, http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/LD48-35-Fatty.png 402w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 402px) 100vw, 402px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n <p>Rupert realized he probably should have done the whole drawing in vector form. \u00a0The only reason he decided not to was a desire to practise &#8216;real&#8217; art (as opposed to technical drawing which vector art always feels more like). \u00a0As such, most of the art was sketched with a Wacom Intuos and Krita.<\/p>\n <p>Rupert also decided to be naughty and code-up a little bit of the game that he hadn&#8217;t explained well enough to Carl &#8212; the fat character should huff to a stop, animate a wind-up, flail through the air and recover on landing &#8212; a bit like a really flabby Hulk jump! \u00a0Coroutines to the rescue <img src=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-includes\/images\/smilies\/simple-smile.png\" alt=\":)\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em; max-height: 1em;\" \/><\/p>\n <p>Meanwhile, Carl wrote more of the game, learnt about Unity Cloud Build and ported to Android! \u00a0That &#8220;more of the game&#8221; summary includes\u00a0doing menus including GUI, diagnosing gnarly multi-collider bugs, drawing place-holder art (which might become permanent if we run out of time tomorrow evening!) and making some parallax effects for the runner.<\/p>\n <p>With our 3-ish hours tomorrow, Rupert plans to finish the fat-man, chop him up for Spriter, re-animate, import into Unity. \u00a0It&#8217;s unlikely Rupert will manage to draw a final version of thin-man so that side might need cutting &#8212; a great shame given it&#8217;s cost about 6 hours already but that&#8217;s jamming, eh! \u00a0If there&#8217;s spare time, Carl made Rupert promise to re-draw some of his fine place-holder art. \u00a0(Whaddya think, Internet? \u00a0Shall we keep his stuff? \ud83d\ude09 )<\/p>\n \n <p>Tags: <a href=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/tag\/exercise\/\" rel=\"tag\">exercise<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/tag\/fat\/\" rel=\"tag\">fat<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/tag\/run\/\" rel=\"tag\">run<\/a><\/p>","time":"April 17th, 2016 7:17 pm","title":"Run, Gamer, Run!
