{"author_name":"Kylegar","cat":"LD #19 - Discovery - 2010","comments":[],"epoch":1292656920,"likes":0,"metadata":{"p_key":"68465","p_author":"Kylegar","p_authorkey":"3436","p_urlkey":"104268","p_title":"7 hours, Infinite planets","p_cat":"LD #19 - Discovery - 2010","p_event":"LD19","p_time":"1292656920","p_likes":"0","p_comments":"0","p_status":"UPD5","us_key":"3436","us_name":"Kylegar","us_username":"kylegar","event_start":"1292544000","event_key":"5","event_name":"LD19"},"text":"<p>So, I&#8217;m making a space empire game of some kind. \u00a0So far, I have infinite worlds being generated&#8230;kinda.<\/p>\n <p>The Galaxy is made up of chunks. \u00a0Each chunk has a density according to this density map:<\/p>\n <p><img class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/dl.dropbox.com\/u\/1940586\/LDDiscovery\/galaxy.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"310\" height=\"310\" \/><\/p>\n <p>The Image itself is 516&#215;516, and the pixel value is the ratio of planets to have in the chunk. \u00a0The Center of the galaxy will have very high density, and the edges will not.<\/p>\n <p><img class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/dl.dropbox.com\/u\/1940586\/LDDiscovery\/temperateplanet.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"64\" height=\"64\" \/><\/p>\n <p>The Galaxy keeps track of where the player is. \u00a0It then Generates the current chunk, and each chunk bordering the current. \u00a0Once the player edges past it&#8217;s chunk\u00a0boundary, the Galaxy\u00a0rebalances, Centering on the current chunk and generating the borders.<\/p>\n <p>Currently, there are a max of 10,000 planets per chunk, but since each chunk is 20,000&#215;20,000&#8230;thats a very low density. \u00a0I think i might decrease the chunk size.<\/p>","time":"December 18th, 2010 2:22 am","title":"7 hours, Infinite planets"}
