[Jam] Animal World Detective Game
I wanted to give my brother and sister a chance to see how the sausage is made, so I’ve brought them in as a team, so this entry will only be in the Jam. My brother’s working on character designs and writing, my sister’s doing the art, and I’m coding and making music.
I’ve got nothing to upload at the moment but the game is a point-and-click-style detective game, in a world populated by animals. You start as a rookie detective solving a simple robbery and work your way up to solving more complicated crimes. The ‘discovery’ part is finding evidence and clues by searching, using various tools, interviewing people, etc. There’s not much unique about this type of game but I wanted to make a fairly simple game so I have time to go through the process with my siblings and have something for both of them to do.
Basecode is going to be whatever 2d OpenGL program of mine I can gut the most easily, plus some extra work in making the menu systems more robust. It’s pretty much going to be just some window setup and texture/font functions. I hope to finish most of this tonight while my brother starts to write out the story and my sister gets some concept art done.
If there’s time left at the end we’ll probably record some voices for dialogue instead of just using on-screen text.
