{"author_name":"Henry McLaughlin","cat":"LD #19 - Discovery - 2010","comments":[],"epoch":1292607960,"likes":0,"metadata":{"p_key":"68716","p_author":"Henry McLaughlin","p_authorkey":"979","p_urlkey":"104519","p_title":"Time Schedule","p_cat":"LD #19 - Discovery - 2010","p_event":"LD19","p_time":"1292607960","p_likes":"0","p_comments":"0","p_status":"UPD5","us_key":"979","us_name":"Henry Mclaughlin","us_username":"pycron","event_start":"1292544000","event_key":"5","event_name":"LD19"},"text":"<p>I&#8217;m not going to lie, I&#8217;m killing time before the compo by posting stuff about my plans.<\/p>\n <p>Before I get into my time schedule, I want to clarify some of my terms.<\/p>\n <p>&#8220;Basic design&#8221; means a general idea of how the game will work.<\/p>\n <p>&#8220;Boilerplate&#8221; means things like game physics, world structure, and a way of displaying a Hud.<\/p>\n <p>&#8220;Prototype&#8221; means a thing I can play with that gives me a good feel of how the game will play.<\/p>\n <p>&#8220;Feature-complete&#8221; means that there are baddies you can fight and kill,\u00a0 there are items you can pick up and they work, there is a boss that has an &#8220;area&#8221; that the player must stay in during the fight, there is a Hud that works, and the level at least features all of the game&#8217;s mechanics.<\/p>\n <p>&#8220;Basically finished&#8221; means that the game is &#8220;feature-complete&#8221; and the level is finished. It also means that there is a title screen.<\/p>\n <p>&#8220;Polished&#8221; means that the game is beyond &#8220;basically finished&#8221; and has music and possibly intro and end cut-scenes.<\/p>\n <p>With those terms defined, here&#8217;s how I&#8217;ve got the weekend planned out:<\/p>\n <p>Friday evening &#8211; Come up with an idea, sketch out basic design<\/p>\n <p>Friday night &#8211; Roll the dice and stay up late, boilerplate, begin prototype<\/p>\n <p>Early Saturday morning &#8211; Try my hardest to finish prototype<\/p>\n <p>Saturday afternoon &#8211; Work on feature-completeness<\/p>\n <p>Saturday evening &#8211; Go to bed early, try to wake up early Sunday<\/p>\n <p>Sunday morning &#8211; Work toward feature-completeness<\/p>\n <p>Sunday afternoon &#8211; Feature-complete (Hopefully!) work on being &#8220;basically finished&#8221;<\/p>\n <p>Sunday evening &#8211; Hopefully &#8220;basically finished&#8221;, get in what polish I can manage<\/p>\n <p>Sunday night &#8211; Compo is over, submit game regardless of current state. Jam begins, go for broke and stay up late.<\/p>\n <p>Late Sunday night \/ Early Monday morning &#8211; Prototype of jam game should hopefully be ready<\/p>\n <p>Monday afternoon &#8211; Jam game has been prototyped, move on to feature-completeness<\/p>\n <p>Monday evening &#8211; Work down to the wire on feature-completeness<\/p>\n <p>Monday night &#8211; Submit jam game regardless of current state.<\/p>\n <p>Tuesday morning\/Tuesday afternoon &#8211; Sleep in, recover from LD scramble.<\/p>\n <p>Tuesday evening &#8211; Write post-mortems.<\/p>\n <p>There. That should be nice and stressful, and will be a good challenge for my ability to develop quickly.<\/p>","time":"December 17th, 2010 12:46 pm","title":"Time Schedule"}
