Islands Far Away: Final Entry

Islands Far Away

Hi all,

I finished my Ludum Dare entry! It is an interactive fiction game entitled Islands Far Away.

It is a game about a game programmer entering Ludum Dare and trying to create a game about islands.

If you haven’t tried interactive fiction, I urge you to try it. This is not the typical text adventure. I think it should take about 15-30 minutes to finish. There is dark humor, strong language, and toilet humor. I would probably give this game an R rating if it was a movie, just to warn you.

Geeks and programmers should at least identify with some of it and hopefully will enjoy it as well.

It will run on any browser that supports javascript:

[EDIT: updated link now supports ipad, and more]

Islands Far Away

Enjoy and please let me know what you think!

PS, there is only one way to die, can you find it?

Also, make sure you discover the back story as well as solve the puzzles for full enjoyment of the ending.

Still looking for a way to die, I’ve found a number of bugs related to the aromatic item. First of all, when it tells you you don’t want to pick it up with your bare hands, you still end up with it in your inventory, and, when you finally get something to pick it up with, you have to put it back down so you can pick it up the ‘right’ way. Second, once you do get that certain something, you can type ‘get ‘ as many times as you like, and each time you get a point added to your score. After you get rid of the item, you can go find more the same way you found the first one.

Yeah, definitely. There is other stuff like that no doubt. Now that I somewhat know what I’m doing, I should have time next time to test and prevent these kinds of bugs (maybe).
