Cats arrive via the pneumatic tube on the left (because where else would they come from?), you poke them into the shape you want on the table in the middle, then you place them in the box on the right. Once the box is full, a lid\u2014with a bow on it, natch\u2014drops on, the box moves off, and a new one appears.
