\"\"<\/a>For this year\u2019s \u201cOctober Challenge<\/a>\u201d I am proud to present\u00a0Mars Orbital<\/strong>, a 3d platformer game with \u201cskateboarding-in-space\u201d physics. I had so much fun making this game, and I\u2019m really happy with the result.<\/p>\n

It should run great on any Windows machine, old or new. The game uses the openGL fixed-function rendering pipeline, which means that it should run fine even on laptops or older PCs that can\u2019t handle today\u2019s advanced shaders. Playtesters have reported framerates as high as 300 FPS when running on a modern gaming rig at full HD (1920\u00d71080) resolution!<\/p>\n

It uses PhysX for realistic rigid-body physics simulation. It even supports non-convex solids, which was essential for proper handling of snowboarding or skateboarding-style \u201chalf-pipes\u201d and level geometry with rounded corners.<\/p>\n

The game consists of 12 levels, including a hidden \u201cbonus level\u201d (hint \u2013 do a blind jump to the left on the first level), a \u201cspeed round\u201d (where you try to collect as many powerups as possible in a limited time), even even a simple \u201cboss battle\u201d (where a ball of electricity tries to push you off the ledge).<\/p>\n
