After playing and rating <strong>101 games<\/strong> (<em>for those playing at home, that\u2019s 4,3% of Ludum Dare #26!<\/em>) I finally feel comfortable enough to list some of my favourites so far. After this post I\u2019m taking a weekend break from this whole Ludum Dare thing and return to rating business with fresh eyes and mind in Monday.<\/p>\n<h3>Without further ado, the recipients:<\/h3>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>[stextbox id=\u201dinfo\u201d caption=\u201dYou Actually Finished It?? award for the most together act\u201d]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>\u2026to the game that, against all odds, managed to be a complete experience with nothing to add or take away:<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-26\/?action=preview&amp;uid=15100\"><img alt=\"\" class=\"aligncenter\" height=\"270\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/compo2\/thumb\/7cbbb9b072aa6f3b4977c08c367663f5.jpg\" width=\"450\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-26\/?action=preview&amp;uid=15100\">Fragments of Him<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>I don\u2019t know if you already know this, but drama is\u00a0<em>hard.<\/em> I\u2019d argue it\u2019s even harder than comedy to get right because the tiniest things can break the mood completely, but maybe it\u2019s just me and my high standards for storytelling in visual media.<\/p>\n<p>That being said,\u00a0<em>Fragments of Him<\/em> nails the tone perfectly. It\u2019s a tragedy that made me feel things! Think stuff that made me sad! Getting the plot to advance sometimes can be a bit of a pain but that\u2019s honestly the only complaint I have about this entry.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-26\/?action=preview&amp;uid=15100\">You should play it. Everyone should play it!<\/a><\/p>\n<p>[\/stextbox]<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>[stextbox id=\u201ddownload\u201d caption=\u201dBrain Reconfiguration award for the most clicking game mechanic\u201d]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>\u2026to the game I\u2019ll be playing in my dreams for weeks to come:<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-26\/?action=preview&amp;uid=12945\"><img alt=\"\" class=\"aligncenter\" height=\"338\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/compo2\/thumb\/e64550bde8158db6038f5f52f67bd078.jpg\" width=\"450\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-26\/?action=preview&amp;uid=12945\">Metahotel<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Everyone has had a case of tetrishead. Play a game where actions are simple and repetitive, yet you have to be aware of the whole picture all the time and plan ahead and anticipate coming actions and you\u00a0<strong>will<\/strong> keep playing the game in your head long after you have quit the physical action itself.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m playing\u00a0<em>Metahotel<\/em> when writing this and I\u2019ll be playing it after I close this computer and lay down to sleep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-26\/?action=preview&amp;uid=12945\">See if it clicks similarly for you.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>[\/stextbox]<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>[stextbox id=\u201dinfo\u201d caption=\u201dThe Next Portal award for the most promising first person puzzle game\u201d]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>\u2026to the game I wouldn\u2019t mind buying from Steam sale for a couple of bucks:<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-26\/?action=preview&amp;uid=1737\"><img alt=\"\" class=\"alignnone\" height=\"313\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/compo2\/thumb\/ce8829b9170fc1127b36f9edb617e946.jpg\" width=\"450\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-26\/?action=preview&amp;uid=1737\">Cimi Mal<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Combination of exploring weird landscapes and a mechanic to alter them is what makes these types of games enjoyable.\u00a0<em>Cimi Mal<\/em> does this perfectly, and I truly wish there would be a lot more of it.<\/p>\n<p>There are certain unpolished aspects to it (falling damage\u00a0<em>will<\/em> kill you, despite never being mentioned anywhere), but the sheer excitement of seeing blocky environment transforming around you overrides everything else. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-26\/?action=preview&amp;uid=1737\">Go take a look.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>[\/stextbox]<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>[stextbox id=\u201ddownload\u201d caption=\u201dDidn\u2019t See That Coming award for the most interesting mode of transportation\u201d]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>\u2026to the game that took blocks and remade them:<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-26\/?action=preview&amp;uid=22220\"><img alt=\"\" class=\"aligncenter\" height=\"348\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/compo2\/thumb\/c5190eae7b9263308edfe3e40fed70b8.jpg\" width=\"450\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-26\/?action=preview&amp;uid=22220\">Deja vu<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>As in previous entry, this game features weird landscapes. But instead of restructuring them to progress, you\u00a0<em>restructure yourself<\/em>. I don\u2019t want to spoil too much about <em>Deja vu<\/em>, but I will say that it features the best use of verticality in level design since Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-26\/?action=preview&amp;uid=22220\">It\u2019s helluva pretty too.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>[\/stextbox]<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>[stextbox id=\u201dinfo\u201d caption=\u201dThe Plucky Plumber award for platforming excellency\u201d]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>dot dot dot redundant additional description colon<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-26\/?action=preview&amp;uid=22429\"><img alt=\"\" class=\"alignnone\" height=\"332\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/compo2\/thumb\/6feb6ab45f88a1a9e3bf70e5f92cc28e.jpg\" width=\"450\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-26\/?action=preview&amp;uid=22429\">Title: Subtitle<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>This title has a\u00a0<em>lot<\/em> going for it, least of it being the visual motif of using words describing things rather than the thing themselves (culminating in ending that is meta <i>as this simile<\/i>), but it also was one of the few entries I came across that got platforming\u00a0<em>just right.<\/em> You can even stomp the enemies!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-26\/?action=preview&amp;uid=22429\">Also features perfect controller support.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>[\/stextbox]<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>[stextbox id=\u201ddownload\u201d caption=\u201dI LOL\u2019d award for making me actually LOL\u201d]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>\u2026to the game where humor came from mechanics, rather than only writing:<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-26\/?action=preview&amp;uid=21045\"><img alt=\"\" class=\"aligncenter\" height=\"338\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/compo2\/thumb\/df6968cf2d4c2bc22086e7ad7531eb8d.jpg\" width=\"450\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-26\/?action=preview&amp;uid=21045\">Random Legend Adventure<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Fight alien ships with pointy stick! Use your goldfish to find secret treasures from mysterious forest!\u00a0<em>Random Legend Adventure<\/em> is exactly what it says on the tin, and delivers it\u2019s promises. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-26\/?action=preview&amp;uid=21045\">Check it out!<\/a><\/p>\n<p>[\/stextbox]<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>[stextbox id=\u201dinfo\u201d caption=\u201dLasting Appeal award for the intriguingest game\u201d]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>\u2026to the game I\u2019ll actually be playing after this month:<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-26\/?action=preview&amp;uid=2966\"><img alt=\"\" class=\"aligncenter\" height=\"320\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/compo2\/thumb\/df25889010c7130ed9685492366efe68.jpg\" width=\"450\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-26\/?action=preview&amp;uid=2966\">Seed<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>If you ask me, best games feature an element of mysticality.\u00a0<em>Seed<\/em> has you in charge of creating life for the plantkind, and it\u2019s mesmerizing to watch!
