For our Mini\u00a0LD 50 submission, we demade Red Hook Game\u2019s upcoming squad management roguelike\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.darkestdungeon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Darkest Dungeon<\/a>, in the style of a Gameboy classic! The game\u2019s not been released yet, so we had to take liberties here and there, but we did our best to stay true to the spirit of the game.\u00a0Feel free to share your feedback and High Scores over on the project page!<\/p>\n<p>There are a lot more features we wanted to get to, including more monsters, Camp and passive Party Leader skills, a surface and dungeon shops, and a classic Text String save feature. If people like this well enough, we\u2019ll put together a Post-Compo Version with these features and more. Other than a pre-existing Java code base, and a handful of graphical assets, all content and features were created within 72 hours (with a small break taken between sessions, because it was a practice run). The game was coded using <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/lwjgl.org\/\" style=\"line-height: 1.5em\" target=\"_blank\">LWJGL<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">, and managed via <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/trello.com\" style=\"line-height: 1.5em\" target=\"_blank\">Trello<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">.\u00a0Audio was produced using <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bfxr.net\/\" style=\"line-height: 1.5em\" target=\"_blank\">BFXR<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reaper.fm\/\" style=\"line-height: 1.5em\" target=\"_blank\">Reaper<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">, and featured the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/rekkerd.org\/xoxos-releases-elder-thing-vst\/\" style=\"line-height: 1.5em\" target=\"_blank\">Elder Thing<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">\u00a0VST plugin. Story stylistic development was inspired by Jean-Paul Sartre\u2019s <\/span><em style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">Huis Clos<\/em><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">\u00a0and Joseph Conrad\u2019s <\/span><em style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">Heart of Darkness<\/em><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">.\u00a0Character names\u00a0came from\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.behindthename.com\/\" style=\"line-height: 1.5em\" target=\"_blank\">Behind The Name.com<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">, and additional names and literary references run the gamut from European and Greek Mythology, classic Combat RPGs, and H.P.
