Believe it or not, Ludum Dare was originally a solo-only event- the solo event survives as the Compo, while the Jam (which allows you to work in teams) was added later. So no, it is not missing the point. The entire purpose of LD is to test your skills, see what you can put out under the pressure of a time limit and theme, and of course have fun! Can I ask – is GameJamming on your own missing the point of what a GameJam is supposed to be?
