This will be my first time competing in Ludum Dare, but I’ve been telling myself that I’ll compete for years now. My previous excuse has typically been that August is the beginning of a semester of school, and finals usually occur around December and April. However, that standard of American education (and my glaring lack of academic accreditation) probably won’t change for the foreseeable future. To give a game, certain excuses will just have to be tossed out the window!<\/p>\n
My ostentatious goal is to compete with raw Javascript (probably using a minimal ECS library) and publishing the game via the browser; the likely reality is that “real” programming will be sacrificed for the sake of time, and that the old faithful Gamemaker Studio will carry me through. I was even considering using Java, it being the language I am most familiar with, but the increased accessibility of a browser game seems worth the effort. Certainly I’ll be avoiding libraries, simply because at this point they would just be another layer of unfamiliarity to overcome. Whatever the platform, simply submitting something within the 48-hour deadline will be quite an accomplishment. Here’s hoping that even a rough start will effect determination and consistency in the long run!<\/p>\n
I’ll do what I can to set up a good workflow for recording progress, whether that be timelapsing or keeping a blog of some sort. Are there any suggestions to this end for a Ubuntu development environment (Windows, if Gamemaker wins over)?<\/p>\n
