In [our game](https:\/\/ldjam.com\/events\/ludum-dare\/38\/memoryleak) we don\u2019t have any explanation of game mechanics (except for first levels), so I wrote this post about basic mechanics and types of buildings.\n\n##### The Goal\n\nThe game takes place on a tile-based map. To win you simply need to occupy all tiles on the map. To occupy a tile you have to create a building on top of it. Spend your time, money, and population on it.\n![pic1.gif](\/\/\/raw\/e8a\/z\/2984.gif)\nThe glowing circle on this gif highlights number of tiles occupied by you and tiles total.\n\n##### Population\n\nOne of the main game mechanics is the population control. With decreasing population of building you have to carefully replenish it while also not spend all of your population reserves. But beware, if there\u2019s no pop left in any slot of a building that building will be destroyed (and will damage pops in neighbouring buildings).\n\n##### Buildings\n\n###### Housing\n\n![pic2.gif](\/\/\/raw\/e8a\/z\/2985.gif)\n\nPeriodically spawns one pop straight to reserve. It could save other buildings from destruction, but not itself.\n\n###### Thanks!\nThat's the end of my shameless cheating (and promotion).\n\nI think here must be yet another link to the game, so here it is: [Memory:Leak](https:\/\/ldjam.com\/events\/ludum-dare\/38\/memoryleak).","comments":0,"created":"2017-04-27T14:05:08Z","files":[],"files-timestamp":0,"id":28748,"love":2,"love-timestamp":"2017-04-27T19:54:18Z","meta":[],"modified":"2017-04-27T19:54:18Z","name":"Bad mechanics explanation","node-timestamp":"2017-04-27T14:46:24Z","parent":22512,"parents":[1,5,9,9405,22512],"path":"\/events\/ludum-dare\/38\/memoryleak\/bad-mechanics-explanation","published":"2017-04-27T14:46:24Z","scope":"public","slug":"bad-mechanics-explanation","subsubtype":"","subtype":"","type":"post","version":69470},"node_metadata":{"n_key":"28748","n_urlkey":"304642","n_parent":"22512","n_path":"\/events\/ludum-dare\/38\/memoryleak\/bad-mechanics-explanation","n_slug":"bad-mechanics-explanation","n_type":"post","n_subtype":"","n_subsubtype":"","n_author":"2702","n_created":"1493301908","n_modified":"1493322858","n_version":"69470","n_status":"WAYBACK"},"source_url":"https:\/\/ldjam.com\/events\/ludum-dare\/38\/memoryleak\/bad-mechanics-explanation","text":"I should admit, I decided to cheat a little bit right here.
