Our entry was to be a 3D multiplayer Unity game where you play as a wandering trader in the Western Sahara. It's an area we're familiar with, some of our clients and volunteers come from there. It's loosely based on the real life story of one of of our passengers who escaped an abusive family by crossing a large section of the desert. We were in the terrible situation of trying to help someone lost in the desert when, weirdly, he had a cell signal and could talk with us. He did find his way to the city, and is now living safely in another country.

The idea was to make an unusually large terrain and turn on fog, so you're wandering about. You have a cell phone, and if you're near enough to a village/oasis you can talk to others about what you're seeing. It was to be a multiplayer game about cooperation and trust. We've all been disoriented in an open world game because every inn uses the same interior model and there's only 4 trees. That's commonly a defect, but we made it part of the game play.

As of this writing we're planning on finishing it after the jam.

We didn't finish because we were plagued by ongoing tech issues:

1. Unity has real issues cooperating with git. Git doesn't properly merge Unity scenes. Lessons learned - make a starter game and insist everyone make a small change to it, practice cooperating as a team.
2. Unity on windows does NOT like projects coming from Linux. It triggers Windows' Security issues, and is a mess. Don't figure this out like we did during the game - we have one team member who literally doesn't have a working unity environment as of this morning, things are so broken.
3. Survey your team member's skills, and make sure you have more than one person with each skill involved. I someone doesn't have a lot of relevant skills, find them a role they can do with their skills.
4. Don't go down rabbit holes. Spent way too much time trying to debug IK on a 4 legged camel
5. Team members need to communicate. We lost a lot of time because people were 'heads down'
