Every ludum dare, I keep a note of "Things I learned" while participating in the jam, some notes are made while working on the game, others are made after people give me feedback on the game. this time I have learned some helpful lessons that I want to keep in mind next time. so I would like to share them with everyone just so maybe it can be helpful to someone else. note that some of these notes may not apply to you, it's just my opinion based on my experience:
-plan the entire game structure on day one, including as many of the details as possible (mechanics, art style, end condition etc..)
-don't be a feature creep, seriously
-art and sfx take to most time when working solo
-you'll almost always have plenty of time left on day 3 after finishing the game, so don't panic on day 1 and 2 if you're behind target progress
-when designing a cover image, keep ludum dare's upper and lower borders in mind (if you visit the games section you'll notice that many games have their titles hidden behind a black border)
-don't make diffcult games, it shrinks the playerbase
-if you think the game is kinda difficult, it's probably hella difficult for others
-the first few moments of the game matters the most, you can make a big game with multiple levels and all sorts of enemies etc.. but if it's not fun from the start most players won't get to reach the other parts
