In Puzzle Mode, the player has a limited amount of atoms to clear up the already existing ones on the grid. You win by clearing all of the atoms in both the queue and the grid.
It will also record local time records. The Endless Mode will have Online Highscores!

End of Day 1: Puzzle Mode!

It’s exactly midnight over here, and I just finished all the gameplay! Just like in my favorite LD, #21… is that a good sign?

NEW IN THIS VERSION:
– Puzzle Mode!
– 10 levels included!
– Fancy Title and Help Screens!
– Drag and Drop instead of two clicks!
TO COME TOMORROW:
– Better graphics!
– Sound and Music!
– More levels!
– Local and Online Highscores!
– …maybe a level editor, if time allows? I don’t think so, but it’s a possibility.

Play it right here!
If you find any bugs, tell me. I tried all the levels and was able to beat them.

Sounds and Scores!

The Puzzle Mode times are now being saved locally. Also, ear rape music and sounds!

The music is not too bad actually. However, you should extend the tune a bit, so it doesn’t get dull so fast.

Now with 33% more puzzles, 100% more puzzle modes, and 50% less ear rape!

There’s a new puzzle mode in town!
The three new levels I just added have a special restriction, you can only make one molecule. That means you have to place the atoms in a way that allows all of them and the ones on the grid to combine to a single giant molecule.

Also, new music. Less pain in ears, and also a bit longer so it’s not so repetitive. Yay!
EDIT: Oh yeah, new atom graphics too. Forgot that.

Play it!
SPACE – Pause
ESCAPE – Back to Menu
R – Reset Puzzle
N – Mute Sound
M – Mute Music

Now Listening To: Melancholic – Junky

3 hours left for me…

coder.motivation += dinner;
coder.resumeWork();

I think I’m happy with my polish now, so I will take 2 hours to make more levels, and the last hour will be testing, packing and submitting
Let’s do this!

I’m done! (+ Pre-Post Mortem)

tl;wr: Entry; play it here

Atom Grid is my first try at a puzzle game, and hot damn it turned out pretty awesome. I managed to squeeze two different modes, 30 levels, online and local highscores into the time limit.

Screenie!Screenie!

Quick pre-postmortem:
I usually don’t like Puzzles, but I really like how this one turned out.
I wish I could have made the “How To” a bit simpler.
Ogmo helped a TON with making levels. Without it I wouldn’t have this many. It was also surprisingly easy to implement, even though I had know knowledge of XML in AS3 before.
Drink less. I had to run to the toilet every half hour. While we’re on that topic… brb.

Screenie!Screenie!

Anyways, how about you give it a quick try? Here’s the Entry Page!

Also, find the kitten and get imaginarycookies.

Timelapse: Atom Grid

After 2 weeks of successful procrastination, I bring you: the timelapse.

I’m planning to review 20 more games this weekend, so I can get Bronze. I wish I could go all the way to 100 and Gold, but I need to finish things for school…

Fuck timing restraints, acquire games

So I’m currently on a trip. Didn’t think I’d have any free time, but I did today, so I whipped something quick up.

Science! is a Top-Down Shooter, the twist being that enemies adapt to the weapons you shoot at them and grow faster and stronger as time passes. So you have to kill them by switching beetween your three weapons, all while collecting data. For Science!

Your Coding Soundtrack #25

I’m going to post this every LD until you like it.
<< LD23 edition (24 was skipped because I was on a trip)

And again, the question is, what is the background music in the life of a successful and professional Ludum Dare contestant?
This LD will also make it the 5th time, so after this I’ll try to get a little statistic up with the favorite genres of the community. It’s little data, but maybe I can do something interesting.

Me? I’m still mainly a Chiptune guy, but holy fishsticks you should listen to the album Unhappy Refrain by wowaka. This guy is amazing. Since I imported it, it often ends up in my playlist, multiple times in a row.

So, what’s your Coding Soundtrack?

My Milked Eek

My LD soundtrack is:
15. Dec 2012 · 08:21 UTC
Lots of Johnny Cash, and a little bit of dubstep and some mixtapes with hip-hop/rap, a massive variation in the taste of my music but the majority of it is by John Cash…

Professional Working Environment

As posted before, I’m hosting a LAN party this weekend, so timing couldn’t be much worse.

2012-12-15 10.40.12

The PCs aren’t here yet, but it’s going to be a 12 player bonanza with games of all kinds. I’ll most likely be coding some quick lines in beetween rounds or during respawns.

The great thing about my idea is that it’s competitive and has a lot of free space for player interaction, but is insanely simple. I got the basic mechanic up after just 20 minutes, and I’ll be working on life points and rounds next. It’s going to be a local 2-player game, so I know many people will not be able to rate it fully, but I don’t care – it’s going to be a lot of fun forcing everyone to test it.

Also, friendly reminder that you are a horrible human being in case you have never played You Don’t Know Jack

Are you ready? I’m ready.

You better be ready.

Introducing my team:
AS3 feat. FlashPunk
GIMP feat. almost-broken drawing tablet
Silence feat. a few as3sfxr sound because I still suck at making music

Introducing my workspace:
This is the first LD I use my new setup in – the left two screens belong to a Ubuntu PC, and the other one is a Windows laptop. They are linked with an awesome piece of software called Synergy, which makes both computers share a pointer, keyboard, mouse, clipboard… it’s as if those three screens were one single PC. Running two OSes. At once.
IMG_20130426_193856Ubuntu will be used for the main parts, such as coding and graphics, while Windows is used for music (pxTone) or level design (Ogmo) – thanks to the laptop, without losing time rebooting.

Introducing the bunny:2779_499774300083242_504810386_nA day without a bunny is a wasted day.

Alright, I’m ready. BRING IT ON, LUDUM DARE!

ALRIGHT here we go

IMG_20130427_110446I was supposed to start 4 hours ago, so I’m a bit late. Guess I just have to WORK FASTER

Day One over!

And holy crap, I got done with the game.

ld26_1

That means I will have all of tomorrow just for polish, music and all that other stuff. Feels good.

Obligatory “I’m in” post

Hello, you fine ladies and gentlemen! This is a post showing my intention to enter this weekend’s competition.

For the past 7 Ludum Dares, I used AS3 and FlashPunk. My first LD, number 19, was my first time making a game with these, and I learned a lot in just these 48 hours. And I want to do this again. So, this time, I will just use something I have no idea about.

I’ve coded some Android games before, but I really want to try something out with a controller, and Ouya is a great platform for this (since other there’s no major consoles with good homebrew support right now, and not everyone has a PC gamepad). So for this LD, I’m thinking about creating something for Ouya (and port it to PC post-compo so more people can play it).

Ever since I finished school, I’ve been lacking motivation to code on games for more than half an hour straight – and in the past, Ludum Dare always pulled me back in, so I’m looking forward to it!

Day 2. Needs more tanks.

Here’s me redirecting a tank shell towards a body of steel to destroy it, while getting ready to catch the next one. Big plays.

gbw2

What’s left today? To complete the game, just enemy spawning, scoring and a background. If I still have time, I can try Online Highscores, making music, or even a local multiplayer. Let’s see what the Ludum Dare gods have planned for me.

By the way, the final matches of the Team Fortress 2 World Championship are starting in 15 minutes – America’s top team VS Australia’s top team VS Europe’s top two teams. You should watch it, it’s quite entertaining. http://www.twitch.tv/vanillatv2
