LD's October Challenge revived at Alakajam!

This Friday starts the month of November, which means it's time for the Oct... November Challenge  If you have a game, asset pack, tool or anything that you feel could deserve a commercial release, next month is your chance to finally polish and release it.

*The goal of the Challenge is to publish any project commercially next month and then try to earn $1 off of it. *

The concept is taken from Ludum Dare, back when it used to host this as an "October Challenge" every year. November suits the Alakajam calendar more so here we are

The next Alakajam! week-end will be held on February 21-23, and the theme suggestion phase is already ongoing. If you've never heard of the jam, the schedule is as follows:

  • The two weeks prior to the jam are dedicated to an original 2-step voting system (Week 1 = submission/voting, Week 2 = shortlist ranking)
  • The jam itself lasts 48 hours both for solo & team entrants, and launches during a livestream at 7pm UTC (Europe-friendly times). An underrated unranked category also lets you have a relaxed approach to jamming: you can work on a long-term project of yours while still taking part in the karma/coolness system to get valuable feedback.
  • Two weeks of community voting then take place until the winners are crowned :crown:

Feel free to check out the results from our previous jams to get a feel for how things are run. We hope to see you there

sspace-x-akj.png

The next Alakajam! week-end will be held on June 19-22. For this 9th event, we're joining forces with sister community ScoreSpace to offer something unique! For 72 hours, you will have to make the best game you can from scratch, solo or as a team ; but after the ratings phase, the best entries will be picked for a gaming competition, where streamers will fight to reach the highest score they can!

You can discover below the complete schedule of the event. As I'm writing the theme suggestion phase has just started:

10th Alakajam! | 18-20 Sep. | Classic 48h jam... with a few twists

akj-site-logo.png

If you can't wait for LD47, the next Alakajam! is being held this week-end! For the 10th event we are spicing things up with a few surprises, brought by a mysterious character who took control of the jam :anguished:

In case you're not familiar with Alakajam, it's basically a small and peaceful community (50-ish entries by event) with some special things like:

  • All games can enable a high score system on the site (people just have to upload screenshots)
  • A gaming competition is held after the jam on a selection of games using this very system to keep track of scores
  • A launch stream will be held by @DanaePlays and @Aurel300 in the hour preceding the start. It might feature some physical goodies being given away
  • ...and more surprises (see pic below)

Hope to see you there! Feel free to say hello on Discord

Feedback Fortnight 2020

What did you work you work on this year? Let's just exchange feedback!

ademv2/emsmall.jpg

While waiting for the next LD, you may be interested in joining Alakajam's Feedback Fortnight, to be held from November 22 to December 17.

This is an event where you can submit any game project, complete or not. When entering, you are then invited to review the other entries, as the goal is indeed to exchange feedback between participants. To make this more effective, we have a LD-like "karma" system in place so that the more feedback you give, the more visible your game is.

If this sounds useful to you, head over there to read more about the event and enter it!

NB. In case you're wondering why this is not an itch.io jam, Alakajam! is actually a sister community to Ludum Dare funded in 2017 by LD mods & veterans. We host week-end long jams three times a year, with some cool twists like gaming competitions held on a jam entries or special events like this one :)
