Ludum Dare 58

Ex-haust-ion

Gotta admit that I'm suffering from quite severe post-jam fatigue... COMPO is a harsh mistress...

Will be dropping a browser-build at some point when I have the time/energy. But here's a few up-to-date GIFs for now at least.

Tried the game for the first time with "fresh eyes", so to speak.

I was positively surprised about the overall feel of the thing.

Cautiously confident that I actually might be onto something here...

To browse or not to browse

I was going to put up a browser-build but the LD-page's own embed-system isn't going along with it. :shrug_tone1:

Tested it out on itch and it's otherwise functional but there's a minor discrepancy on how Box2D functions in the HTML5-build compared on desktop. Almost a non-issue, but it still keeps bugging me because it affects the "game-feel".

ScaleemComparison/emSmaller.png

I went and included an extra .EXE-build of the game with resolution uspcaling for now.

The smaller one on the right side was the way I saw it during development. 320x200 resolution without up-scaling might feel a bit too minuscule (especially if you have a 4K-monitor) so hope this benefits someone.

I think this time my creation was more in par with the old-school "COMPO-spirit". I was more focused on implementing the technical idea I had in mind and put less emphasis on visuals.

Got a feeling that there might be some untapped potential hidden there somewhere...

Given time I'll probably be doing a more in-depth write-up regarding the process and my plans of possibly expanding the project in the near-future.

'Look up here, man, I'm in danger'

Ok, I'm resorting into begging/self-plugging. :electric_plug:

It was impossible for me to build a web-version of my game. I have elaborated reasons for that in the comment-section of this quite relevant discussion about the current sad state of affairs.

Feel free to drop desktop-only games in need of ratings here and I'll see what I can do. :scales:

Special mention for Linux-builds, but windows-executables will also do. :floppy_disk:

The latter I'll try to run through through WINE. :wine_glass: :penguin:

October Rust

This is the first time I'm this enthusiastic to continue with a project post-jam. But I also planned my COMPO-entry to become a basis for a bigger prototype to begin with.

I made a rudimentary test of a decay/spoilage-mechanic I've been cooking up in my head. The RGB-coefficient of the fruit is tied to its spoilage-value that in turn is affected by collisions. Obviously in the future it would be affected by a lot of different factors, like time.

I liked the vivid colors of fall that appeared by accident when I ranked up the values to excessive amounts as a test. :fallenleaf: :mapleleaf: :leaves:

I'm quite happy with my score and all your encouraging feedback!

Thanks to everyone who came by!

Till we jam again!

SIGINT: Can you comb out the crucial information from all the noise?

I've been occasionally fooling around with software-defined radios (SDR).

Considering the theme I thought I'd provide a few useful links for anyone willing to try out perhaps for inspiration or general interest. :signal_strength: :radio:

If you comes across some catchy oriental tunes or clandestine governmental intel, act accordingly!

Here's another fun tidbit.

It just happens that yesterday you could read from the news that my country's air-force conscripts were expressing themselves in quite a creative way.

pippelipilotit.png

I don't know whether to construe this as as a signal of distress or delight! These works of art could be observed in Flightradar24.

It's quite amazing that nowadays even ordinary folk can observe almost all aircraft going about. The other day I was looking into the standardized tech which makes it possible. Fascinating stuff!

When looking into the underlying definitions of SIGNALS, I bumped into this schematic in Wikipedia's article about signal processing.

Signalemprocessing/emsystem.png

I can't quite articulate why I'm inspired by it. But I might try to cook up something surreal but slightly going along these lines... Another angle I like would be to focus on biological or "organic" signals found all over the natural world.

Since I'm quite low on energy there's a real chance that I might have to settle with only devising ideas and concepts. But I'll try to come up with something really simple for the COMPO.

I was reminded of this doodle I made four years ago and managed to dig it up.

Signal_Ear.png

Might be I'll use it as a starting point, or might be that I won't!

But yeah. I'll end my collection of thoughts with an appropriate album I haven't listened to in a long time!

This is shaping up to be... ....something, I guess?

Tomorrow will tell if I can keep on track with some of the initial plans I've laid out for myself.

Also bumping my earlier post since I actually put some effort in writing it. :scroll:

...aaand to top it of with a theme-appropriate good night's song to be received by your auditory sensory organs.

G'night!

Broadcast(away)

It's ugly as hell, the UI is un-intuitive and there's no actual game-play implemented yet.

But it's certainly interesting and fun to fool around with! :signal_strength: :ear: (Ironically it's still missing sound BTW!)

Gonna need a break. Trying to get my head around the most essential missing elements and which of them are feasible enough to include at such a late stage.

Actually made... ...a thing.

I can tell you it really went into some unexpected directions in the final hours...
