Option to "Follow a game" just for one Jam

TL;DR I would like to have an option to wishlist a Ludum Dare game.

@pov I would love to have an option to follow/wishlist a game just for that one particular event.

Sometimes I see a post and I'm like "I would really love to play this game after it's done!".

I know you can already follow people, but honestly I don't want to have hundreds of followed people on my profile because that way I completely lost track of why and who I even followed.

Homunculus is out!

As a prominent student of Halnemburk University, you are invited to your professor’s laboratory to witness the biggest scientific breakthrough in history. Professor Gragmagor is about to harvest his work he has been growing for years…

Suspicious Comments Make it Look like people didn't play your game

Disclaimer: I am not trying to accuse anyone, I just wonder if there are people who vote for games just from screenshots.

Maybe I'm just being suspicious of people, but sometimes it feels like people's comments and votes are just for getting Karma and don't give you any specific feedback.

These are usually like "Nice graphics, cool game" or "It was a good game, good job". Or some of them even copy paste answers from previous comments.

Have you noticed this too, or am I getting paranoid?

THANK YOU EVERYONE!

This is beyond crazy. I have never got even half of the ratings in my previous games. Thank you everyone who tried and rated our game. It is VERY MUCH appreciated! <3

I'm trying to rate as many games as I can, but unfortunately my time is limited. But there is still 14 days to go!

AI technology - ethical/allowed?

Hi guy, This topic has most likely been already discussed so please feel free to tell me and I can delete this.

Anyway, I feel like this particular LD will be a lot different since there is a chance that people might be using AI for art and coding too.

So I wonder what is your opinion on this. I assume it is probably a rule too, but there is no way you can prove or disprove you used AI or not, so at the end it is really just about people being honest with themselves.

BIG DISCLAIMER: I'm not asking because I want to use it, I'm asking because I've seen more and more games being done by AI and it feels like the progress simply goes that direction. As for me, personally, I think "cheating" on LD event is like cheating while trying to speedrun a movie. There is no one to cheat, only your own enjoyment. So I am against using AI.

Obligatory Wallpaper

It's been a tradition of mine to create Ludum Dare wallpapers for each event. Unfortunately, this year I'm quite busy, so here is at least a simple one.

Only one theme suggestion per person

As much as I like the freedom we have now, I would appreciate to slaughter only 1/3 of the usual numbers. Slaughtering nearly 3k themes is just waaay to much imho. So I suggest having only one theme per one registered member.

Here are some arguments why I think having less themes is better:

1) You focus more on each theme and actually think about it, instead of just rushing fast in order to manage all themes slaughtering in time.

2) You manage to actually get them all. In my 16 LD events history, I think there wasn't a single time I actually managed to vote for ALL the themes. And that sucks. Imagine how many good themes you miss, simply because you get lost in the sea of thousands of themes. I wish I had the time, but it is quite time demanding.

3) Less duplicates...

Alternative process for development during LD

Everyone has a different process how they manage their project, so here is my (i think) rather unorthodox method on how to be brainstorming and working at the same time.

Disclaimer: I make only story driven puzzle games, so maybe this method is not for everyone.

1) I always start with GRAPHICS, yes, you read it right. The thing that should be done last. The main reason is, that my main focus is the story/dialogue, and instead of just sitting over a white piece of paper thinking about story, I start drawing out of my head, whatever comes to my mind. And while drawing, my mind goes towards these places I draw. I make up some scenes, characters, items, locations, time periods, etc. and it helps me imagine these situations better.

So it goes something like this "I'm in a mood for some steampunk environment... This looks like a lab, I like it. So there will be these two professors... No, a professor and a student. The professor comes up with an idea and the student (you) must help him. There will also be some alchemy related puzzle..." There you go. You have a story right there!

2) After graphics (and ideas) are done, I start writing specific dialogues and puzzles

3) Implementing graphics, puzzles and coding. Finishing game.

Problem with embeded Web game

Hi guys, I'm still getting this error

Snímek obrazovky 2023-05-01 141802.png

However, I have the index.html in the folder, so not sure what I'm doing wrong. I had no problems last Ludum Dare.

This directory is the one I'm uploading. The index.html file is in the WEB folder. Should I move it?

Snímek obrazovky 2023-05-01 141919.png

!!!SOLVED!!!

I was accidentally uploading "windows" compiled folder instead of "web" folder. So it was a good old human error facepalm
