Ludum Dare 50

Upgrades

I changed up the controls to Z/X for Jump/Shoot so it's a bit less RSI inducing, I also added smaller rocks and an improved lazer cooldown / fire spread

Ludum Dare 51

After 10 + years, and 12 compos, I did'n't know you could suggest themes!

It's actually harder to think of something generic enough it could spawn 2000+ games and be original.

I like the idea of machines / vehicles / creatures running amok - could be interpreted a number of ways, from a runaway train, to herding animals etc.

That or I reckon something with sticky / magnetic abilities could be cool and interpreted a number of different ways.

Like some sort of physics sim with electromagnets, or cats climbing on curtains , lizards up walls, or spiders down drainpipes , or the whole world covered in treacle.

Ah - not quite hit a decade yet.

I should've checked wiki - So my first entry was 2013

A Cat in a Tank , with a Potato

Doing digital archeology on old projects and discovering you'd wasted the first hours of a compo doing a completely different game to your final entry. Couldn't find the music files this time though. :

Hoping construct 2 will last until the end of the year

Twofor

It's kinda strange scrolling back through old posts from years back and seeing how the games evolved. I'm sad I couldn't find all the original music source files.

Old entry #8 - Keep it Alive

This one (mostly) paid off in terms of keeping to a simple idea and not throwing in too much complexity to bog down gameplay. I still don't think it was much of a game, but it was 'finished', and a home to one of my favourite vocalists/front-men taken too soon.

Almost caught up!

Lost progress, but went off on a tangent.

After losing a bunch of pixel art animations to the new Photoshop Save dialogue, courtesy of Apple's unwillingness to follow standards. :punch: - I rapidly scrabbled to do a shortcut by modelling the rough outline in Blender to do a paint over.

Since it's still somewhat passable, I think I'll leave off paint-over/cleanup 'till post-dare :smiley_cat:

Lost most of day 1 stuff - ended up the cheating using Blender wasn't that bad.

I quickly mocked up some animations in blender with a view to doing paint over, having lost my previous sprite strips, but with anti-aliasing turned off and flat lighting, it was a fairly decent approximation of pixelly art, and as a bonus, much easier to animate

Click to watch on YT - dunno why it's not playing embedded. :scream:

I'm waiting until the last hour to make gameplay, as usual..

Escape the slime pool during the earthquake

I failed to add falling debris etc. Just imagine an extra sense of urgency with beams / concrete falling from ceiling

You can play it hosted here now!

Updates - More Slime, more Gravity , More stats, Better Music

Tweaked a whole bunch of stuff, it's now clearer what's going on every 10 seconds ( earthquake/flooding ), the controls have been tweaked, and the music improved.

Also replaced a few animations to make it play smoother.

Still to add a cut-scene or something, doing a nicer render
