LD 38

Ludum Dork, eh?

Felt the need to use that somewhere, but couldn't think of anything, so hey — post title! (Also, hooray 15th post on the site!)

Looks like this'll be my ninth consecutive participation, and I'm as excited as ever. I'll forego the usual list of tools I'll be using and simply mention the new ones, i.e:

Inkscape (Graphics): I've technically used this in previous Dare submissions, but this time it'll be my primary tool as opposed to a secondary option, as I feel I've gotten used to it enough to make it work.

Caustic 3 (Music): While I'm still very new to using this, I've made more progress with (intentional!) music creation using it than I have with anything else I've tried so far.

If you've not heard of these before and would like to use them yourself, you can find them here (Inkscape) and here (Caustic).

Have fun, everybody!

Wait, so I got a what now?

So over most of my Ludum Dare participation history, I've never gotten much for ratings. After all, my projects are usually woefully unfinished, for one reason or another. Being as this time was no different in that department, I didn't expect any difference in ratings, either.

And by and large, I got what I expected. A three, mostly twos, nothing too huge.

Then I saw that.

For me, that is huge. I have never done that well in any category at all in any of my previous entries. Even without that score, this entry did a better than a good half of my previous attempts at minimum.

I thought of this idea within the first two hours. It was my backup plan; I was trying to think of something better. I expected 3 at best. A four? I don't think "color me surprised" does it justice.

Huge thanks to everyone who played my game, by the way — not just for the ratings, but the comments. Plenty of them, and almost every one had plenty of excellent feedback. A post-compo is still coming, and I've kept what you all have said in mind!

LD 40

Oh man, it's already here.

Can't believe it's the 40th Ludum Dare already. It's not so much that I feel like the 39th was just yesterday or anything, but it certainly doesn't seem like I've already participated in over 11 events! Not regretting a thing, though. This has been a fantastic idea from the start.

As for what I'll be using:

Unity3D [Link] — Game Engine

Inkscape [Link] + Paint.NET [Link] — 2D Art

Caustic [Link] — Music

Audacity [Link] — Audio editing

Best of luck to everyone participating!

Ah well, looks like I'm going to have to drop out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Not too upset about it though. I still like the idea I came up with, even if it was too big in scope and I found myself too demotivated to work on it. Probably shouldn'tve tried to make an RTS for the first time during LD, eh?

Anywho, better luck next time. Good luck, ya'll!
