Success, failures, Lessons learnt from LDJAM over years

Game dev is fun..

joining a team to do game in a fast pace is thrilling jam.. so keep on returning back to the LDJAM.. Most of the time had chosen a bigger design and had to be 72hrs version. Well when you are in a jam and the artist says 3d had to learn and do that programming..

With lot of good game engines now, it is pretty fast one can jump in to develop games now. Still it is good to take a framework and work over it to make a game.

Most time used the jam to learn a new topic/area in game development. Being programmer game jams helped to learn art and tech art.Cant say become an artist now but can do the basic necessary dummy art for the game. One time learnt art in blender, other time learnt the shaders in unity

And sometime not able to finish or struck up in the middle with a problem which took more time or real world issues lead to not completing /submitting the game. Based on the confidence from the game jams able to try my indie game dev journey and released small games in mobile.

Mostly this time going with WebGL version of game targeting the browser. and fully free and open source tools

Art tools

  • Blender
  • Paint.net
  • * YADATooLz * (my own creation, tool is in development)
  • Krita

Dev:

  • Git
  • Visual studio code
  • any one of the lib p5.js or Pixi or Bablyon.js

Integrated Physics

Check out the rotating world in web

Submitted my game

Lot of planned but very less implemented.. Had to go out for covid test.. Yet able to learn a lot, as not chosen a already made game engine.. integrating physics to game and class organization is what my next concentration
