LD21

Behlod the first 3 hours!

BAM! ALMOST PARALLAX 'N' STUFF!

Also: Why did I use the same title with a different amount of time spent? :/

Runner .. and his problems. – The Intro

Look at this piece of art! Amazing, huh? (not really, but whatever.)

Intro!

Adding stuff. Then Submission!

So, if I submit my game first, I want an award. M’kay?

Totally early post-mortem.

[WARNING! INCOMING WALL OF TEXT!]

Woo! I was done for ages.

This was a fun LD, but also an too easy one for my taste..

“Escape” didn’t challenge me. It didn’t challenge me eet all.

Now, for the dev process of that is totally uninsteresting exciting!

DAY 1:

So, the first day started with me sleeping 2 hours longer than I wanted to. I hate snooze buttons. After I woke up I started my computer, got some breakfast, looked at the LD-Site – BAM – Idea for escape! Okay, to be honest, my idea was based on a cheap 1 hour game I made the day before called Jumper. It had the same concept. Without parallax. And that, children is, why it sucked ^_.^ So I drew a block. And another one. Then I wrote my 0815 Platformer Engine out of my head, removed the possibility of moving and failed to set it up correctly 5 times! All because of not adding the variable ‘jump = 0;’ to gravity code. I fail. Anyways. Later I added some graphics and started with the parallax base to give a feeling that you’re actually not just standing there, with a run animation sticked on your head. Now it was time for rocks >:D
They were also just animated things, but they moved at a speed of 4 and got generated by the player every 3 seconds. Then I added more graphics and the different screens for menu, game over and all that.

DAY 2:

Today was.. kinda lame, to be honest. I refined graphics, raged about the server melt, added one pick up, submitted as 7th person, and that’s about it.. Lame. L A M E! Then I went swimming. Fun. Really.

And yeah. Play here: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-21/?action=preview&uid=2494 (Links don’t seem to work properly, atm.)

What went wrong/right

Forgot about that and am too lazy to edit.

What went right:
Music
Gameplay
Graphics
Submission Time
Food
IRC
Almost everything else.

What went wrong

The site server ^_.^ (I’m thankful to PoV and Phil for fixing it, though)
The variable ‘jump = 1’ x_.x

So, there, done.

Interesting..

I just saw my game in the first picture of the LD article from Rock, Paper, Shotgun.

That I approve ^^

Ex-Dodge Update.

If you ask: “Why Ex-Dodge!?”

I got an answer for you.

WTF?!

Is this game Dodge?

You may say, no it isn’t, but know one thing. It actually is.

So what happened to it? To be honest, I don’t really know. It all started when I worked on the lighting. At first I wanted to do the actual lighting system, then I experimented with lamps to pick up and changed the graphics to be darker. Moment after moment, a game formed in my head. A not all to family friendly game. Then I started working on it and the outcome can be seen above. As this is definitely not Dodge anymore I changed the name to: Codename Orbit. This is only the temporary Codename if you get it.. :)

And now. This is the update for this time.

– Folis

Shameless idea stealing!

I got a blog too.

http://folischallenge.tumblr.com/ <- That one

I'll update there, and maybe twice per week here.

That's it.

LD22

Wow.

There were LOADS of awesome themes in Round 2. Then there were some not-so-great themes.

Also: Evolution needs a -1 :p

I would like Fork to win. My brain is flooded with ideas if I just say the word. Fork.

Fork Fork.

Suddenly.. walls?

OMFG, THERE ARE WALLS!

Soo. Yeah. I’ll just record an update for the documentary, then I’ll go sleep for 3 hours or something. I’m just incredibly tired right now.

Woo!

Oh! Table! Wait.. This looks like Portal! >:o

Finally a progress update.

22 Hours in. 1 a.m! Tired as f**k. Finally did something!

Pretty!

DOWNLOAD – Linky!

So, basically you can walk around and open the randomly spawned crates. You can also push the crates. That’s for the tactical factor of the game.

Walking – Arrow Keys
Opening Crates – Space while standing close to them

Get some rest and continue- i’m curious to find something in a crate.

Moar Progress!

DOWNLOAD – Linky!

You can open the crates and with a certain chance you’ll soon be followed by a zombie. If your health == 0 you’ll be taken to gray screen. Else you can just be mean to the zombies ’cause they’re pretty dumb.

I am done. Finally. >.<

Play it – Rate it – Don’t steal it!

I am motherfiretrucking done! It took ages and it was exhausting! Too tired to say anything else.

Gotta get to bed to get at least 6 hours of sleep.

I can’t wait to see what kind of game comes from that. It looks nifty. 😀

Mini-LD #33 – Going for the random

So, just for the sake of getting all out of it, I randomly asked the IRC if I should use Cpp or Python/PyGame

The decision fell onto Python.

This means, it’s gonna be quite a challenge. I know some Python and also got a bit of PyGame under my belt, but let’s see how well I actually know this stuff :)

So, there we go!

I thought you were going to use C++, so that you have some experience come April? :)

LD23

And now for something completely different.. (Monty Python reference intended)

I actually wanted to do the Mini-LD. Turns out, I was busy with different things.

To be exact I spent the last 2 weeks almost completely with my dad and school stuff.

My brother had this random idea to set up a small personal weather station with a site for our local network, so everybody in the family knows the exact stats of the weather (Wind, temperature etc.). My dad (who’s a amateur radio fanatic) liked that idea. So we randomly decided to get that on paper. We’ll see how it turns out.

In other news: I didn’t do the Mini-LD :(

Hey Folis,

Website and other things.

I just quickly re-wrote my webpage from scratch, for the sake of hosting my LD-related things on there: My stream and my game.

It’s not beautiful, I know, but HTML/CSS should get the job done.

Next up: Prepping for the last 3 hours.
Then: Compo.

The best of luck from me.

Also, I’m streaming from now on. It’ll probably go something like 48/2 😉

Code of the last minute!

Yargh! So close!

There you go!

It’s basically just a simple file, which draws a screen, sized 640×480 and blits it.

That’s it! On to the announcement!

The heck is going on? (incl. Concept Art) :o

Everybody here is making progress and more progress.. It’s creepy.

Anyways:

Here is my concept:

Description here.

Onward to finish my image_load (-ing) function.
