Why do you think the dog is lost?
I'm curious how people are interpreting our game. Let me know in the comments!
And if you haven't played Lamps yet, the link is HERE

We've been getting a lot of positive feedback about LAMPS but also some negative. Some people are getting lost, and don't know what they're supposed to be doing.

That's why we've decided to include a system in the new version that gives some backstory to the lamp shop, and will hopefully help players understand the core mechanic of Keeping the Light Alive
We've also implemented some... more SPOOKY additions to the game... so watch out for those too ;P
We've got roughly 216 Ratings, which is absolutely insane O_O I Can't thank everyone enough for playing and rating our game. Hopefully this model helps other artists out there become familiar with good practices for modeling, rigging and animating animals.
We're going to be releasing it on Tuesday May 12th, once the results of the jam are out so people don't get confused during voting.

-Firstly, we've added a story! Feedback has shown that people were very confused as to what exactly was going on.
Hopefully, this will make the whole experience a lot more understandable, and doubles as a reward for exploring the whole maze. Hopefully, this will help players have a more enjoyable experience.
-Secondly, we've added a fail state which will solve the major problem players were having of using up all their light and getting stuck in the dark. No GIF for this one, you'll have to experience it for yourself ;P
-Lastly, we've made it more clear that you're NOT going in circles by adding basement level signs:

Hopefully these fixes will make our game even better. I'd like to thank everyone for their wonderful feedback! These improvements couldn't have happened without you.

Some people found the mysterious nature of Lamps to be right up their alley, but many people wished for a little more narrative. Why is the dog trapped in an endless lamp shop? The new version includes mysterious hints as to the nature of the world, and how this poor sweet pupper ended up roaming its endless halls.

To help make the experience more enjoyable, we've added a spooky fail state if your light runs out of power... This will solve the problem many people had of getting stuck in the dark and having to quit the game.

Obviously we wish we had scored a little higher on Graphics, but we're very proud to have gotten 35th in Mood! What really surprised us was how low we scored in Theme. I suppose many people didn't understand the light mechanic, which led them to believe that there was no mechanic, and therefore the notion of Keep the Light Alive didn't resonate.
We had designed this game to be eerie, opaque and haunting, we absolutely achieved that, I think! With a few tweaks, however, it would have been a lot more accessible.

A game about living with regrets in purgatory, and playing music to talk about them.

All done the first environment pass :) It turned out to be much brighter than the concept art, but I think that's fine.
Now to model the instruments, and characters! I hope tonight to have them all done, and have started on rigging.

First time working in it and holyyyyyyy so nice

Hang in there everyone!

Your comments have been so kind and helpful. :) Feel free to use this character model in your own games, or just take it apart and use the wings or whatever.
