Ludum dare part 1/6 or 7 Complete! Skyllartor!

Ook. I’ll start off by saying that I’m doing the compo in 4 hour shifts!

In shift #1:
-Made a colour processing map generator!
-Made Tile, foliage, and other various sprites
-Added basic rts unit selecting method(streatching a rectangle)
-Started a very tiny bit on Unit

For shift #2:(in the morning @ 8am – 12pm pst)
-Work on Units
-Make UI
-Get working on seperate game modes(Story, Gautlet, etc)
-Main menu

So yea It might seem like I’m pushing the features a bit, but, I’m just bassing it on how well this first shift went. It’s amazing how much I got done in 4 hours!

I would drop some screenshots on you guys but it seems I may have forgot to before I turned off my computer… I’m wrighting this on a WiiU.

Anyways, I hope everyone is having as good a time as I am! I’ll see you guys in the morning! @ http//www.twitch.tv/skyllartor# (I think thats the adress…)

Cant sleep! Streaming!

So I cant sleeeeeeeeeeeep! going to start shift 2! @ http://www.twitch.tv/skyllartor#

Thankfully I realized it!

So last night I couldn’t sleep and while working I took to realization that I’m trying to implements features that I’ve never tried before and that I should dumb it down and un-plan it and THEN I’ll build onto it. You can watch me @ http://www.twitch.tv/skyllartor#

I hope every ones Ludum Dares are going well!

Good advice, thanks!

streaming shift 4

So After that break MY BODY IS READY! Streaming @ http://www.twitch.tv/skyllartor#

Ze Henchman! 10 hours! D:

So there are only ten hours left! So, I meant to do a 24 hour log but I was to caught up in trying to do proper collision but oh well, just gotta push on!

So My game is called “Ze Henchman”.In this game your play as an evil henchman for hire who gets hired by some classi—— uh… I mean Completely original evil bosses! You just have to defend their objective and not die!

ZeHenchmanZeHenchman2

ZeHenchman3

And with that! back to 9 and a half hours of work! ill be streaming @ http://www.twitch.tv/skyllartor# ! SEE YA THERE!

I didn’t finish…

But I learnt a lot!

Yes, My game did not get finished. If I had spent at least 20 more hours on it I could have finished it . which I do have 20 hours but I have school tomorrow and those kind of conflict. But thankfully after finishing I thought back to all of my ambitious and  silly hard projects that I started and realised; thanks to preparing for the dare I can now proceed with My big main project! This was a triumph for me and I cant wait for school to go out for holidays!

Would anybody else be willing for a 2 week holiday compo? Sort of like October Challenge? Just drop a <3 or something so I can see if and how many people would want to. Either way I’ll be making a game.

Mini-Dare #40

It’s time for the mini dare and I’m barely prepared.

First of all the cooling system in my laptop died so I had to bring it in for repair this morning. Thankfully I am in a technological based family of nerds so we just busted out a spare laptop. It is surprisingly powerful, I just finished installing eclipse and also downloaded OBS so I can stream my progress.

I’m not that good at making games yet and the time I have just hinders the process, but I have an idea of what I want to do and hope…lots and lots of hope.

I also hope you all have a fantastic weekend and a good Ludum Dare!

http://www.twitch.tv/skyllartor

oops

Once again I missed out on the mini dare >:|. I was exited and ready and at the last minute life stopped me and told me “Nope!”. So to make up for my failure I shall make a game in 72 hours(does not follow the theme of the jam last weekend). If you would like to watch me I’ll be streaming here. Keep in mind that I started at 11 this morning(it is now 1:15). Just stop by and say Hi or stay and talk a while. Also no back seat programming unless I ask for help. Thank you!

Exporting in Eclipse

So before LD 25 I decided to try exporting a very simple game I made, I did it and the game worked perfectly when I opened it. Now I exported  a new project and on opening it, it’s telling me…

zaetgf

It haven’t changed my methods between now and last time, I exported the first one again and it worked. I’m guessing either the new workspace is different or I did something to make it work  last time that and don’t remember what.

Can someone help?

UPDATE: I moved the game to a java 1.6 project instead of 1.7 and it worked. Do I need to change settings? Re-download eclipse? My computer HAS the latest Java update.

First off it depends what compiler you where using, what engine you use what DDLs extensions you had used what models you used, what system it was made on, what language you script in, what files your missing, what folders you referenced to, and if any lines tried to open a file that was not locally located or was identified as an asset.

I was just about to suggest jarsplice!

http://www.twitch.tv/castlegreysky

Streaming!

Streaming @ http://www.twitch.tv/castlegreysky as long as my computer doesn’t shit itself. Got a great idea for a game based on the theme “dreams” which I don’t think it made it to the final round.

Mmmh yes.

awrestdy

I guess my art style fits the theme well :)

Hobo

So I came to the conclusion my game will be a rogue-like about a Hobo… or… a retired professional Hobo? What ever it is, I’m fairly proud :)

Monaco is a good game…

That is my reason  for no finishing for the COMPO. I’m sort of standing on a precarious perch… either I let gravity have its way and just fall and not finish something… again, or I could just tank it and climb the sheer cliff of Ludum dare, bloodying my fingers on the thick rough surface of my keyboard, climbing overnight until dawn and settle for the lower peek of the Jam…

or I could play more Monaco…

hmm 😐

Artist(s) Wanted!

Hi my name is Skylar. Me and my friends are developing a game for the Ouya. The game is an arcade RTS where you command a sqaud of 5 Mechs through multiple campaigns each with their own objectives and story, told through a series of  levels. I am programming the game, Jeff is the writer, and a few other people will be helping build levels. I estimate that I’ll be done coding in 2 weeks and the game itself will be completed in about a month.

But after a few weeks of development I finally realized that there are only place holder graphics. oops…

So I am looking for a decent graphics artist. Someone who can make good 64×64 tile sheets.

The style I want to see is “Vibrant Colours” but “kind of gritty”.

Email me at Skyllartor@gmail.com if you’re interested.

Thank you!

RTS JAM YOU SAY?

So… I’ve been throwing around an idea of an RTS game for a couple of months now, and have been avoiding doing it.

I’ll be practicing and taking down notes for this jam until it starts as well as playing cube world.

Good luck and happy Ludum Dare to you all!

Yea going to try to stream…

again. Just a little recap >>> I am pretty busy during the 7dRTS challenge and have almost no spare time. So I tried to stream making an rts game last night, I finished the main class and  then my mum and sister came home from shopping so I had to help them and literally as I’m walking back to my room my girlfriend came in with no notice and decided she wanted to play videa games with me.

So I’m going to try and stream again for a couple of hours, again:

  • Music: Smooth McGroove
  • Streaming Quality: Will not be the best
  • Language: JAVA
  • Goals: make a fun game, don’t mess up

My body is ready, See you there.

http://www.twitch.tv/castlegreysky

Streaming more :)

So yesterday I live streamed coding of my early 7dRTS (I dont have any spare time for the dare next week),  for 12 hours 0.0

I feel the twelve hours went super  well. I only stumbled apon one silly texture glitch and thats about it. The game is aimed to be a “Pikmin/Rogue Like”. I’ve got the Pikmin part in the bag with the exception of a few unit selection Problems and adding enemy units.

So I am going to start streaming about 7 until about 12 tonight.

See you there :p

http://www.twitch.tv/castlegreysky/

So I’m in…

My plans to visit family where canceled and that is equal to me being in this Compo.

I started to make a pikmin-esque game as a make up project for not entering this week. It was Pikmin but with robots. I really like it but I didn’t have time for it at all last week, so it’ll remain unfinished probably for a few weeks.

My plan this week is to make a RPG/ RTS/ Rogue-Like that feels like the original legend of zelda but with a modern steam punk-ish theme. (Pretty damn ambitious)

Goals>>

  • Manage my time well
  • Keep under 64kb total file size(to avoid over-expanding)
  • Stream ALL of it
  • No losing interest
  • FINISH THE GAME!

I’ll see you at my stream :) >> here
