LD 53 - Obligatory I'm In Post + Self Promotion

Alright, here we are with another LD :)

This one caught me by surprised and I almost forgotten about it. Copying a lot from previous ID, so if you have seen them before, you will find them familiar.

Setup

Tips/Advice

As usual, tips for new jammers.

  1. You have 48 hours (72 for Jam), but in reality you only have about 20 hours.
  2. Despite having only 20 hours, spend 1 to 2 hours planning and thinking out what you want to do. It is worse when you realised your idea is a bad one a few hours into development.
  3. Plan out your scope and cut it by half. At the end of the first day, cut whatever is left by half again. (If are new, you might want to cut it by 75%).
  4. Identify your MVP, and beeline to a it ASAP. It is more satisfying to add to something playable, than to just blindly stare at code. Ideally by the end of the first day, you should have the core loop finished; core loop being menu -> game -> gameover/victory.
  5. Spend your last 2-3 hours playing the game, fixing bugs and balancing instead of adding more features.
  6. Don't make your game too hard. Most people will give up after 5 minutes.
  7. If you can, have a browser build. It is easier for people to try your game, and it will have less issues.

Shameless Plug

I have been working on my last game from LD, and it will be ready to launch this June after the Steam NextFest. - https://store.steampowered.com/app/2348090/Crop_Rotation/. Participating in a LD while rushing a project to launch. What could possibly go wrong.

Plan for this LD.

I have a few ideas that I want to try, so hopefully the theme will fit some of them. If none of the theme fits, then I will just make a simple game and call it a day :). I just want to make sure that I don't miss any LD.

Good luck everyone !

The delivering Parcelman

Have you heard of the friend of travelling salesman ?

Delivering parcelman is a game similar to the travelling salesman problem :) Play as a parcelman to deliver all the parcel. Will you do your job well or will you be fired ?

PS: Planning to play some games today, drop your links in the description, ideally Web/HTML game only.

My LD52 game is coming to steam :)

Hi everyone. This is not a marketing post, since we are all devs here. Okay it still kind of is.

Early this year, I made Crop Rotation during LD52. The game was very basic but I really wanted to make a card drafting game.

After working on it for close to half a year, it is finally (almost) ready. I will be participating in the coming Steam NextFest, which means that there is a Demo :)

You can find the demo on steam or if you prefer to do it on web, you can find the web demo on itch.

The game looks totally different from the original LD version, but the core idea of "drafting" is still there. Do give it a try and if you have any feedback do let me know here or you can find me on Mastodon/Discord :).

I'm In ? + Self Promotion

Time for another LD. I just launched my 2nd game 2 weeks ago and I am not sure if I am ready for a 48 game jam. Probably a much smaller scoped game this time round.

Setup

Tips/Advice

As usual, tips for new jammers, and tips that I sometimes don't follow LOL.

Personal Goal

As I have just launched my 2nd game (see below), I am looking for something to commit to for my 3rd game. I will be prototyping some ideas :) hopefully I can find my next project either from this jam or the next.

Shameless Plug

During LD52, I made a card drafting game inspired by Luck be a landlord. The game just launched about 1.5 weeks ago :). The game is call "Crop Rotation" and some of you might have heard about it :). Do check it out on Steam if you haven't.
