Purpapus vs The Creature

Purpapus is controlled by WASD.
The Creature is controlled by arrow keys.

up & W = jump
left & A = move left
right & D = move right
down & S = attack

You have to click on the game window in order for it to take your WASD and arrow key input.

Made a really simple game as best I could from scratch. Had a great time this weekend. Have a ton to learn about sprite animation and physics!!

Nice job.
But this kind of game was very common in this LD.
Maybe some innovation (powers, skills ...) make the game better

Good characters, good use of the theme! That's a good start, keep on learning! One thing I noticed is that I can jump while falling. Also, the jumps may look better if a bit smoother: perhaps go up for a bit, then nothing, then go down for a bit (instead of up then down as you do now). Or you could use non-integer numbers and get something completely smooth.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

@hoyt hoy 100% agreed. I desperately needed to add some "juice" to the game but ran out of time just implementing the basics. Next time I will leave at least Sunday for adding the extra fun bits like that.

@panda Hah, I didn't notice the jumping while falling bug some how, thank you, good catch. As you noticed, I had a tough time implementing the jumping physics and have a lot to learn about it before the next LD.

Thank you so much for trying out my first LD and giving me feedback!

Creature designs are cool! Might be neat if they had slightly different stats like in Toejam & Earl (speed/rate of fire maybe? Wrapping the map horizontally might let you add some AI entities (that both players have to dodge) without getting the level too cluttered.
