The Top Floor by ohmmus

[raw]
made by ohmmus for LD31 (JAM)
The Top Floor was a fun learning attempt at old-timey visuals and synthesized sound in a pseudo-platformer setting.

This was my first LD. I hope this buggy mess of a game can at least make one person out there smile!

So it's buggy, and I'm not quite sure what I'm supposed to do. When I realized the game is called "The Top Floor" I just went up there, and it told me there's no snowman.

Also, how does this fit into the theme?

The way the elevators work made me laugh. And I liked the gun sound.

Bit buggy, But still an awesome concept. I think with more polish and a tad more direction you would have a great game!

Nice entry even though I encountered a few bugs. Reminded me of Blackthorne from the old days of Blizzard

This very vaguely reminds me of a game called elevator action from back in the atari days. I like the retro look and feel.

I gave low on theme since to me scrolling is pushing the boundaries to one screen. It is basically the same IMO as room transitions. If maybe some rooms had/good surprises the replay ability would be much higher. I didn't hit any bugs myself. Place the elevators on opposite sides of some floors or monsters on the elevators to make it harder. Example elevators on one side, stairs on the other. Monsters go up and down elevators and stairs, but you cannot shoot them there.

Great job on your first LD game! At first glance, It made me think of Elevator Action and Ghostbusters on the NES.

I like the artwork for the main character, and the ghosts are great! yeah, it has some bugs, but for a first-timer, I think you did well. Keep it up!

Love it! Very fun :) I was able to get to 12000 points. Sometimes thinks are a bit off from where they should be, but that just adds some charm to the game. It doesn't seem there's an end to the game, though? I got to the top floor, there wasn't anything special there. And the ghosts respawn, so I can never kill them all. Also, I can walk off the side of the building...

Got a score of 6330, encountered a few bugs along the way. The elevators made me giggle a bit, but good job for it being your first LD!

Managed to beat the whole game in about 10 seconds... Sorry, but this isn't very good... There is no reason to interact with anything other than the elevators and then run to the door.

A bit glitchy, but not bad. Is there a way to win or is the snowman message all you get?

I have to say "well done" since you manage to do everything on your first LD, but I found the game easy and not very interesting.
The concept is nice, but it tends to be repetitive. Also, it doesn't really fit the theme.
Still, a good work

Yep, not real clear on what I'm doing, but it really feels like all the pieces are there. Another few hours of work...?

The sfx all fit with the style. It was a little confusing what I was doing when I entered a door but I figured it out eventually. Pretty good first entry, dude!

Some parts were funny, but the main problem is that there is no progression course. I could just go directly to the top floor with the elevator and see the end.
