A bit disappointing that its just another top down shooter with no special mechanics

It is what it is, more polish and shine would make this stand out a tad more for me.

Good job. Though having the enemies only come from the sides meant staying in the middle and moving up/down became the best tactic. Going forward you might want to add in obstacles, or powerups.

I also probably wouldn't have used the mouse to shoot unless you were giving the player more than 4 directional shooting, I'd have just let them shoot the way they were moving.

Good for a first try :) I like that it's not just a straight up shoot-at-the-cursor top down shooter but at least has the four directions thing. Though you could then have used the keyboard entirely to control the game instead of the mouse :)

Well, it's playable. ;) Personally I'd like to see shooting in arbitrary directions...I suppose sticking to four directions makes the gameplay a bit more involved, though. Anyway, you've got a game loop, animation, sound, smooth controls--now you have no excuse not to make a better game. :D

i must say looks fairly nice for a first game, good job! :) on the other hand, there is not much in the game not seen before. also, i wouldn't have used mouse for 4-directional fire scheme, it's rather ambiguous to go for the direction you want. still, congratulations!

Nice game, nothing out of the ordinary but the particles are a nice touch.

I like that you chose to have a box as the sprite, that made it easier to see that you can only shoot in four directions. Add some power-ups and this would be a really nice game! One power-up could for example be that you're turned into a circle which lets you shoot in all directions, continuing on the concept you already started.

Nice shooter and for your first finished game it's good!
A little critical point: i think that the game over screen doesn't fit into the graphics of the rest of the game.

Congrats on making your first finished game! I really like the simple graphics and the colors orange and blue always look nice together. The audio fit well and the particle effects gave some good feedback when you shot stuff. Good job!

Its an "OK" game. But I dont like how you have to shoot. I am expecting to aim where my mouse is, not in a general area. The music was good though.

Good FX. If shooting is going to be stuck to orthoganals, better to use keys for shooting direction rather than relying on the mouse. Also shooting in the last moved direction works for these kinds of games. Or you can make shots move diagonally towards the cursor.

Either way, its a good start - this is the basis upon which games like Binding of Isaac are built.

I really enjoyed this. I really liked that you could only shoot at 90 degree angles. Forced you to move to line up your shots. I think being able to move with wsad and shooting with the arrow keys would have been a bit easier, though.

I like the minimalist side of this shooter. However, there is plenty of scope left for polishing the game, such as increasing speed...
