POLYBRAWL by nk

[raw]
made by nk for LD35 (COMPO)
A minimalist micro-brawler for 1-2 players, starring lovable abstract polygons.

Timing is everything! Attack when your opponent is idle to knock them back, but be careful not to expose yourself. Every successful hit will make you larger and meaner - but the bigger they come...

Controls

P1: A and D, or controller 1 left stick
P2: J and L, or controller 2 left stick
Space or (A) on either controller to start

Sincere apologies to the controller-averse who also happen to be on non-QWERTY keyboards!

Building this has been pretty fun, although I think I'd prefer not to solo my next game jam - building a 2 player VS game without a co-pilot means flying blind!

Really like the presentation of this one, and it's a very unique style of "fighting" as well, nice one :)

I really enjoyed the music to this, but the gameplay seemed a little chaotic for me. I would try to time my movement to coincide with the enemy, but then I would transform and promptly be knocked back by the AI. caused a little frustration, but I can see the potential!

i can see potential, but as it was said before, gameplay is chaotic, I couldn't predict whether i will be hit or not. Sound and camera shake was satysfying though.

Innovative fighting mechanic. A little too easy vs ai as I could just constantly go to one side and win :) Must be very fun multiplayer and maybe also with a jump mechanic? All in all well done and nice music!

Really nice presentation but the combat needs some tuning. I couldn't really notice any advantage to timing my attacks vs just blindly pushing towards the opponent.

Nice game! This could work great for a handheld game. I would like to play multiplayer too. Anyway, loved the minimal visuals, and camera work. :)

Idea was alright but a bit hard to play.

What a brawl it was! I did kill myself however when we swapped sides lol

Cool game, I think it is a original combat-system for a brawl game. Sometimes it is a bit hard to predict when to attack, but it is funny and good overall. Good job!

The AI was definitely a bit too easy but I really like the concept and the music was superb!

The controller swapping really threw me off. I think you should put it in as a feature that happens randomly but make sure there are visual cues for the players to notice whether they swapped sides. That will keep players on their toes

It has potential for sure but it's not finished enough. It seems that just holding down a button is enough to win at times and the timing is too hard to do. It needs power ups, more action, something. Overall good and the idea is there but needs a little more!
