Megavolve by mokesmoe

[raw]
made by mokesmoe for LD24 (COMPO)
Your gun evolves as you progress depending on how you play!

Controls:
Arrows - move
Z/Y - jump
X - shoot
R - suicide

Play a couple times and you might get different weapons!

The 1.1 version removes the debug command left in by accident, lets up also jump, and should fix the boss bugs.

Remember to remove nextRoom action when L is pressed:-) A bit hard.

Good, although the graphics could be a bit more interesting.

I wasn't able to get far enough to see the gun evolving. No way to avoid the enemies and effectively shoot them. :(

Some fairly challenging platforming.
The lack of in-game control hints made me discover suicide and next-level before jump/shoot.
making enemies respawn when re-visiting a place is kinda bad.
There seems to be no way of getting past the black-ground-guys without taking damadge

I wish I knew which parameters determined the gun I'd get on the next level.

Also, those turret things are the worst, you're pretty much required to get hit by them if you want to deal any damage to it.

Also, I respawned on the boss for some reason. That made what could have made an interesting battle way too easy.

I really did like the concept, though. This isn't bad for 48 hours; good job.

Didn't make it to the gun evolving. Yet another game I suck at...

Fun, if a bit clunky (jumping is especially weird), platforming. I made it through almost the entire game without killing a single enemy. I wish I knew what stuff gets which guns, and enemies didn't respawn though. Pretty good.

I wasn't able to play it since you didn't have a web or a Mac version.

A bit challenging. I love the animation of the wheely robot that you see first.

I am really platformer fan so I like that part. I guess the weapons evolve and I do like the spread shooter. The jump ties with the level design so it provides a jumping challenge giving it another level of fun. Overall pretty decent. good job.

Liked the game as a platformer. Kinda hard though, but still very enjoyable. I just couldn't find a connection with the theme! Good job anyway!

Good platformer but pretty hard. Missing some background graphics.

Very challenging, especially those enemies that only popup when they can shoot you, then hide when you jump to dodge their shot! Made it to the blue weapon, which was a pretty cool weapon design (but hard to master). Good action, and indeed very megaman-esque.

The idea of the turrets was a good one, but perhaps a little too unforgiving. I liked the bouncy-spring dudes as well, so the enemy variety was a plus point. The under-powered jump and enemy respawns did make it a bit frustrating though. Overall some good ideas here which could be developed further

a bit too hard for me, i tried and tried, but couldnt get past the first level, you have an excellent concept though, maybe tone down the difficulty a little?

Cool Idea, I just couldn't get past the second level. How do you get to know what gun you have received and why?

I sort of get the evolution theme: the guns power up then you move to the next level. Obviously the game is influenced by Megaman, which is not bad IMO. I would like to see new things through and the powering up the gun doesn't seem new to me. Still a good game to play.
