Poggle Island by Rose
Poggle Island - HTML5
Lots of varieties of Poggles live on Poggle Island, but you want just one kind to thrive. To evolve the kind you want, you'll have to remove Poggles with undesired traits from the gene pool. Achieve success by strategically killing off sections of the population via climate change and sniping individuals with lightning bolts!
There are further instructions in the game. For the best experience, please use an up-to-date browser like Firefox or Chrome.
Tips:
- The features of a new Poggle are chosen randomly from its parents. Identify which Poggles could have the baby that you want, then try to get them together.
- Colors don't mix: red and blue Poggles have either red or blue babies, not purple.
- Don't be afraid to control the population by wiping out whole sections with climate change.
Known bugs: The lightning doesn't reach to the bottom of the screen. Just knock your targets closer to the top.

My only gripe was with crowd control. The cloud was somewhat insufficient, and climate control is more of a "kill everything"-button. Something in between would've been great, I think.
I guess my first mistake was assuming the colors needed to blend. Beyond that, I never seemed to get furry ones if I needed them, only furless ones of the same color that never seemed to make what I needed. Interesting idea, just didn't have any fun.
A beautiful game to play: quite fun :)
I tend to clean them all out and then start small, isolate, kill-off with lightning and viola!
What could be improved would be a tutorial - maybe a few demo moves or something - not just a bunch of text.
I enjoyed the music too, but I played for long enough that I had to turn it off so as not to annoy others. ;)
Gameplay is confusing because there are so many poggles and you're not sure as a player what is helping your objective :D
From a casual gamer's point of view, it's pretty good, too!
That being said, it does suffer from similar flaws as my own game, of which main two are: the overall feel that achieving the goal might be pretty random (and somewhat independent of the player), and (still) to little control over mating and which Poggle dies and which doesn't (lightning bug + it takes time to load). I tried to battle similar flaws in my own entry, but I'm still not entirely sure there's a good way to do it.
Overall, the idea is perfect (I should know), this is as close to the theme as it gets, graphics are awesome, there's even some music. It's fun to play, but it's still more of a simulation than a game, so it targets a specific group of people, I suppose (like me). Should I add that I loved it? :P Great job!
I played the game when it was still a WIP and actually liked it more at the time because there was no delay for the lightning.
Also, the music is choppy for me (Firefox 15).
Very clever use of the theme, 5*!
